2026 PICKS
Round 1: 1 x Own
Round 2: 1 x Own
Round 3: None
Round 4: 1 x Own, 1 x linked to Sydney, 1 x linked to GWS

The Magpies have plenty of picks out the back of the draft at present, in addition to their own first and second-round selections. They handed their third-round pick to Sydney during the trade period as part of the deal to get Jack Buller to the club but got a fourth-round selection back from the Swans, while they also hold an extra fourth-round pick tied to GWS.

Just like the AFLW, Jen, find us another 1st and 2nd, please

These are the players out of contract 2026.
I wonder how many will have contracts renewed.
Maybe not too many?

Great question. It’s an early simple call. I have Frampton, Crisp and Parker as re-sign. The rest are performance dependent. If list growth and veterans are good there maybe little list change. Going to be great watching.

I hope we don't sell out too much of our 2026 draft capital to get into the conversation for Humphrey & Butters come next year. They wont come cheap. Especially Port as they need draft capital to acquire Cochrane and more club tied talented kids in 2027.
Some great prospects coming through across all positions in next years draft and I think we should be looking at bringing in some more youth. Focus on some Wingers & Defenders.

If there's a pending FA to target, I'd be targeting Bailey out of the Lions. He'd be super in our midfield and might not cost as much.

At the end of next year I’d really like us to:
  • use our 1st rounder at the draft (or trade if only for an absolute jet)
  • find a way to bring in another first (but it’s already tough to do but even tougher with Tassie on the horizon)
Could we bring in another 2nd rounder?
- look for absolute value with our current second rounder
I’d like to use it at the draft but it might be a good time to use our recruiting smarts and bring in a player before they reach their potential
I’m thinking
  • Archie Ludowyke
  • mid
  • KPD

we could of had him if we wanted to on draft night, pick 50
after watching his highlights, im surprised we didnt. moves well, lovely kick, decent height etc

doubtful he would leave after a year though, even if we were interested

The commentators compared him to the way Cadman moves
He’s a guy the ā€œmightā€ be a jet but many don’t come on as expected
We might have thought it more prudent to see if he shows signs of development before pursuing him

Good thoughts. It is really difficult, the club needs to put the work into trade options early to achieve a good outcome. We have many potential improvers but they don’t have senior exposure. From our current young batch even three establishing senior places would be huge. Moving our future picks into 2026 will have huge cost. I can see our veterans being replaced by a mix of ages. This includes bringing in senior players for 2-3 year periods like Mitchell and Membrey.

He was rated top 10 for quite a while, I wonder what happened

Looks a natural forward

Not sure why he slipped - I never saw him play live so that's the danger of going off highlights

After bringing in Buller, developing West, Howes and old stagers McStay / Membry maybe our list profile didn't suit having him on the list at this present moment
That's why I be looking at him closely throughout 2026 - will he develop, is there a player he could replace on our list?

Was highly rated by some (but obviously not from AFL recruiters) too far out and others soon overtook him.
Had a poor champs and an injury impacted season there after.

Goes to show, don’t read too much into all the highly rated talk by online media pundits around prospects as they almost never fully align.

Good clubs and recruiters find the hidden gems no one is talking about and there’s plenty of them running around in the CTL, SANFL & WAFL that better suit today’s style of game.

With an ageing list, already too many preseason injuries, our list depth will be sorely tested this season.
Not sure we can keep going to the free agent well and expect to bring in high end talent.
Need to hit the draft and start bringing in some additional youth and target some areas of need to support the 2025 intake.

Wings need some serious attention
Key Position and Rebounding Defenders
A goal kicking medium size forward

Unsure what our draft hand will look like come the end of the season. I'd be surprised if we are picking in the top 10.
I sure hope our recruiting team are looking far and wide.

How does attacking free agency affect our draft hand?

How does attacking free agency affect our draft hand?
Yes sorry, Restricted Free Agents.
Where we give up too much draft capital acquiring a RFA. Houston as an example.
I just think it's time to focus on injecting more quality youth into our list and the 2026 draft runs deep and has some excellent prospects across all positions.
Tassie then soon come into play which then compromises the draft even further for a period.

You mean trading, nothing to do with FA restricted or otherwise.
