Here’s the scouting report from Rnd 2 of the talent league.

Sounds eerily similar to what we’ve been looking for in a half back/medium defender. Even with Becker etc

#21 Ollie Griffin
Forward | 186cm | 04/06/2007

Stats:
17 disposals, 9 marks, 5 inside 50s, 4 goals

Griffin is an absolute powerhouse seemingly on a collision course for the mid-season draft. He put on another marking masterclass against Oakleigh, searching high up the ground and bringing down pack marks. The over-ager showed a great knack for accessing the ball at the top of his reach and tends to play above his 186cm listing, so much so that Sandy would have hoped to have two of him out there. Griffin also utilised his booming kick to get the ball moving forward, including with an unbelievable goal from inside the centre square. He has the capacity to catch fire at times and is a genuine competitor – which extends to his underrated pressure game.”

Awkward matchup, vice like contested mark, booming kick, competitor, good work rate defensively. Also by a guy who has shaved huge time off his fitness measurements.

Seems exactly like a Thursfield pick tbh.

Reads like a medium forward Trembath…

Extremely possible that we had Bamert locked in until Griffins last month of footy..

Bit of Blake Hardwick about him reading that. Was a young leaping forward with a booming kick

Do you agree with that take mate?
Is he any good?

I'm supporting Griffin if only because he's a Mentone-St Bedes kid and we're owed a win from this area after the prior debacle that rhymes with Bacob Smegfords.

St Bedes/Mentone*

Is actually a merged club of the St Bedes Old Collegians and the Mentone Tigers of the old Federal League.

Also Luke Beverages first senior coaching job.

Edwards was from Beaui Sharks/Mentone Grammar.

The arch rivals for both schooling and local footy purposes.

Yeah, I know, it's my club. I just like putting Mentone first as that's my affiliation. Edwards I just slipped in from being in the area, my wife never taught him directly but they knew each other through school, he was of palpable disappointment.

Not exactly a footy factory ol' Mentone Grammar with alumni like Leigh Fisher, Glen Nugent, Ollie Florent and Shane Warne but I'm sure there's some better ones out there. Who have St Bedes produced beyond Lawrence Angwin and Brad Hodge? Just curious really, I'm sure there's also some very handy types that have gone there too.

If anyone knows any of our recruiters can you please pass this on.

WE NEED A DEFENDER.

Thank you.
Instant fix for right now, that we throw away in the near term? Or one needs a little more development?

But if you're prepared to wait the season out we'll have Archer and Thredgold to add. Probably Whitlock at some point. Hardeman just back and Goater on slow cook. Pink, Corr as backups with Harvey, RHJ and Zurhaar developing. Dawson starting to build minutes back there and im sure much to the delight of our rainbow people we'll be back into Butts.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.........same old bigfooty argument.

Even if there are no decent defenders there, get a defender. Its like picking fruit. Just pick a defender over someone far more talented and exciting.

Get a defender.

Here’s that game btw.

You can see the Logan Morris comparison. Does not look like a guy that is the same height as Sheezel.

I’m presuming a big wingspan, big vertical and a big maximum vertical reach relative to his height. Similar to Duursma.

1:20 👀

A couple more recent ones are Amartey, Scrimshaw and Mitch Owens, can't forget Mitch Brown either. St Bedes had Finn Callaghan and Miles Bergman, not forgetting there Gerard Healy, Dylan Shiel and the aforementioned Bevo.

Scrimshaw was Haileybury I thought (unless he went to both). Some quality names there, esp. Callaghan and Owens.

Yeah, Jack ended up getting a footy scholarship at Haileybury.

I disagree. I think it's the perfect spot. Top picks often go to speculative failures from last year's draft who have been bullying the u18s just through size.
We are around the point you grab a 22 year old who is ready to go.
Hey there. Hope you're good.

If we were to pick Griffin, do you think that's almost an admission that Brayden George might not make it, or purely based on best available/highest ceiling of players available???
