Rethinking my 3rd trade.

Locked:
Rozee > Houston.
Dan's price is too good to pass up. His kicking so far this year has been sublime, and he's getting a lot more of the ball this year. Moore and Howe back may make him less accountable and free him up a little more.
Lombard > Cook
Lombard's 20 was unimpressive, and Cook looks like he'll make some good coin, especially once he's back home at Adelaide Oval (3 games in a row after this week). His DPP will be invaluable.

Third trade was originally Sharp to Watkins. But now I see Sharp may even play this week or only miss 1 week, and Wines comes back for Port meaning Watkins may go very low again (though still make good cash).
Sharp surely has better JS than Watkins (when fit).

But in order to protect my ranking, I should probably move Petracca on instead and bring in another premo.
I can get one in any position, but only want a player whose next bye is the mid-season break.
Really want Ash, but he's out next week.

Who would you bring in? $280k in the bank.
Premo for Petracca? (Leaning this, to stay top 100)
Watkins in for Sharp? (if Sharp is out)
Hold the third trade, save the boost?

also cant be using this as an example where you prove yourself wrong, come on 😂

anyway comparing last weeks scores. 1918 with premos, if i drop a premo score (118) and take the 19th (73) score im at 1873.

Thank you for showing me the error of my ways (via my own example)- I for some reason was looking at that example and thinking the difference was 5, not 15 lol.
I will concede, thank you for setting me straight

I think my favourite option in your position is Christian Petracca to Max Holmes.

Homes is a young star with a rising average every year. He just had his bye and doesn't have another until Round 16.

Money off the bench, premo in to keep pace (assuming your goal is overall).

You miss Watkins but Sharp doesn't need to be moved on if he is only missing 1 week. He 'should' get plenty of games in that awful team and will make $$. There's also plenty of rooks on the bubble for next week. I think Watkins also makes some decent coin but not a 'must have' (I AM bringing him in this week), especially with Wines back and his respectable score coming against an atrocious Essendon.

(Edit: startegy may be different if league is your focus and making finals is very likely, as making the most profit you can would then outweigh immediate points)

Assuming structure is ok either way, is Lindsay or Sharp the better trade out if neither are named? The other may go next week if not back so I guess the question is who is more likely to be in for Rd 4
i have lindsay, not sharp, but if i had both i would turf sharp

lindsay will be back before we know it by the sounds on wc boards, and theres not much rooks on horison down back at moment as against mids and fwds

id bring in zerrett
with carnage so far, he's as reliable as you can get and has a decent bye round (r15)
holmes r16 sucks with premos

Rozee>Ash
Petracca>Bruhn
Sharp>Cook

$285k ITB to upgrade Parish to a premo mid. Likely Holmes v Neale.
Love The Ash pick.

Not going Houston ?

I have 3 pies in my team.
I think one of my tooth is getting loose :moustache: /

Given Marshall & Blamires are scoring well enough to be decent assets in my defence for round 6 onwards meaning im happy to have a pretty poor defence up until then as the next 2 rounds are best 18 anyway. Windsor can stay at D3 until round 5 when ill grab NWM.

Point is, given ive gone light in defence, i have enough money to grab Gawn this round. Then ill have a midfield with Bont/Butters/Daicos & rucks/flex of Xerri/Gawn/English plus Sinclair & Sheezel as my genuine DEF & FWD guns.

Trades were Petracca, Rozee & Sharp > Gawn, Houston & Cook

Parish down & Windsor up will be the moves i make prior to round 6. Hopefully Macdonald, Ross & Windhager can carry on doing decent as my main PODs. Would be nice if Bond can solidify a spot in the Crows team, assuming he comes in this round.

Sitting at 228th which is my second best start to an AFL SC season. I think my peak rank was about 60 in 2020. Didnt stay near the top for long though, fell off the pace severely!

I must admit ive been fortunate so far with most of my 50/50 calls which is what you really need to be near the top. Phillipou & Young > Xerri & Murdock paid off big time last round but after getting lucky with Xerri killing it, Murdock got injured so while i still think they were great calls and id probably make the same moves again, i paid for going early on Murdock!

Other than that, a few of the mid-pricers i considered but ended up avoiding like Blakistan & Kiddy have been poor. Unfortunately, Windsor hasnt been any better but point is, i avoided some of the real bad traps & got most of the rookies right. A bit of skill involved but honestly, mostly luck.

For anyone who has had a poor start, its a long season and there are probably a lot of teams near the top who got there from luck and they arent actually good at this game. There is plenty of incentive to keep making smart and savvy decisions and stick to the process, hopefully some luck will come!

I was curious to see what people are doing with Parish?

I need to get rid of Rozee
Might get rid of Petracca
Would love to flick Parish and Blakiston

Got Bruhn, Houston (or any premo defender) Cook or Duursma in mind to come in

I would be holding Parish at least until after Round 4 when the byes are done. He is going to go up in price and has North this week so could do ok.

Decision time:

OPTION 1:

Leaves me with $332k - downside is McAndrew is then stuck at R3 - can still get to Bont by getting Scerri in for a rook and Parish up
1774409857710.webp

OPTIONS 2:
Leaves me with $561k and an easier path to Bont next week

If you can make good cash from trades this week.
you might have enough get close to upgrading both those guys .
maybe

You are far too close to me in the overall for my liking ;)

But for FWIW I have gone Petracca to Holmes as per the reasons listed previously.

Plus look at Holmes run of games when it is SC finals time

I didn't start Rozee but I'm still thinking of bringing in a defender via Grlj DPP. Mid rookies are doing well and it feels a waste to bench them to put Serong or Sellwood on the field in the coming weeks. Plus Houston offers great value for his price.

Or do I just do the obvious thing and keep Grlj in defence and bring in Daicos as a mid?

Thanks lads.

Reaffirmed my thoughts on Holmes, and yes did take a look at Zerrett too.
Have grabbed Holmes for now.

But..... I could go for a sneaky Smiff! Had a great year last year and is only $40k more than Holmes.
6 scores 130+, and averaged 118. Did miss 3 games though. Just can't play a full season.
Only in 2% of teams.
Make or break type pick!
