Is there some hurdle with nominating for the draft that would have prevented him? Mature agers get picked up all the time, he obviously had a good enough 2025 an AFL club has brought him in. Just seems weird you wouldn’t do it just in case.

We’d be saying another club hid him if this was happening somewhere else.

Wonder if we are looking at maybe taking 2 players in the SPP...could have justification if Thredgold is going to spend extended time on the sidelines.

Looking at the options with train on and players we've been interested in through our VFL side.

Louis Pinnuck - Werribee, 26-year-old 110 game VFL vet. 187cm intercept defender. Strong in the contest good balance between offensive and defensive game. Good decision maker with reliable skills.

Tom Blamires - Frankston, 22 year old midfielder/defender who burst onto the scene last year. Ball big who covers the ground with ease, mature body who can play a variety of roles inside and outside the contest.

Zac Becker - Sturt, 22 year old 191cm defender. Mature body, booming kick. Strong intercept and lockdown ability. Progression from SANFL reserves to senior mainstay has been gradual. Tough and Courageous.

Xavier Bamert - 185cm 19y.o explosive midfielder. Was unlucky not to get drafted last year after a solid year for Sandringham. Has impressed at training with his speed and physicality.

Hugh Byrne - 194cm 20 year old key forward who was on the VFL list last year. Physical, tough and a contested marking threat, he has impressed with his speed of the mark, leading patterns and physical progress over the past 12 months.

Isiah Markovsky - 179cm, 20 y.o small forward who was previously on Collingwood's VFL list. Has impressed with his ground level ability and vision. Hard to tackle, and very natural in front of goals.

Ryan Commanduer - 19 year old 180cm lockdown defender, was one of the Northern Knights most consistent players last year. Can intercept, can lock down but can also provide some drive with his neat disposal/decision making.

Makes the intraclub even more interesting.

Depends on the Thredgold prognosis, but I have heard we are only looking at 1 ssp.

Perhaps holding one for the mid-season draft to assess early season performances although chances are another spot would open up by then.

And your pick would be?

If we take two (assuming Thredgold is LTI) I'd take Blamires and Becker. The two of them are the most physically mature and likely to impact from the get-go (which I think is important). Blamires flexibility to play midfield/half back and wing is very appealing, while Becker's contested marking and booming kick is appealing in modern footy.

We probably don't need anymore development types on list. We might have options in the MSD if any of those younger guys impress in the VFL this year,
Hey rf08, what's the knock on these guys? The thing(s) that stopped them getting drafted early?

Louis Pinnuck - Limited upside due to age? dour and reliable type, perhaps not much of a game breaker at AFL level?

Tom Blamires - Slow burn with his development, Only 12 months of exposed form at VFL level. Late bloomer? Kicking can sometimes be inconsistent.

Zac Becker - Slow burn with his development, only a few years of exposed form at VFL level. Question marks over speed?

Xavier Bamert - No VFL exposed form. Question marks on disposal consistency

Hugh Byrne - No VFL exposed form. Speed?

Isiah Markovsky - Limited VFL exposure.

Ryan Commanduer - No higher level exposure . Overall athleticism.

Hearing there's no intention for Thredgold to go on the LTI (maybe a wait and see for the MSD if there's any hiccups) but your two at the top is hopefully the final decision.

Silly. IMO.

Thredgold is looking at a minimum 6 months on the sidelines. He isn’t going to factor in the seniors this year, we’d be far better served benching him for the year and taking another shot on a mature ager who could potentially improve us on field.

I know this is a very 2005 question of me but is finances perhaps a consideration? 2 LTIs now plus another come MSD time, perhaps we just can't afford that shit?

When you read question marks on pace and disposal efficiency, you just know we are somewhere licking our lips
Throw in a "hack kicks under pressure" and a north recruiter somewhere is already loosening the belt.

I’d like to think we have 1. Plenty of cap space and 2. Plenty of forward planning to accomodate potentially 2/3 bargain basement 1 year rookie contracts.

It would be piss poor bad planning if we can’t make it happen.

Another argument I’d have for taking two players is the fact that we have so many injury prone types on our list currently. Goater George etc.

Having some additional ready to go depth could mean there is less pressure on those types and they can focus on their development rather than an expectation of stepping up into the one’s .

Will some/all of these boy's get a go in the intra-club on Friday ?

It’s likey that all of them will.

Pinnuck is subject to the bullshit AFL nomination exemption.
Now it’s public news, that non-exemption may not last.
