What's the point of these articles. He's contracted for another 4 years ( including this year). Who knows what's going to happen in 12 months, let alone 48 months!!
The point of the article is evidenced by the last dozen or so posts in here - create some interest.

Jakey Connors saying that one of his players would be open to talks with other clubs is the equivalent of a fast bowler sending down an early loosener.

Push comes to shove, Nick will do what is best for himself. Footy is his living and has a limited lifespan and can end suddenly.
Much as he might love the club, it is a business not a love affair.
I intend to enjoy him while we have him and if that turns out to be for his entire footy career then it's a bonus and we can count ourselves extremely fortunate.
Saying that, I would not want the club to hock itself up to the eyeballs to keep him.
One thing I like is that we are showing we are a club who has an appetite to let good players play on well into their 30s.

We have the fitness staff, facilities, etc to allow it. Maybe other clubs do too, but we are doing it better than anyone else right now.

Maybe Nick sees that he would get bashed and crashed being in a young Tassie side, living and playing in the cold and wet down in Tassie. More plane rides, less family time/support.

This is without mentioning the legacy and sponsorship benefits from sticking with Collingwood and most likely being a long-term captain.

Tassie can offer 2x what we do and I still doubt it’s worth it for Nick, unless something happens that results in him hating being at Collingwood.

It precedes the the loosener - it's putting on his undies.

The current CBA runs out at the end of 27. He would be crazy to sign on now not knowing what the salary cap is.

Potentially he could be getting 3m a year in 32

Agree. If I'm Nick, I'm not signing for more than 2 or 3 at a time. Take advantage of the increases that will come available. Why sign a lifetime deal when in all probability the last few years he will have dudded himself.

Look at the top end earnings now with NAS getting 2m a year.

Considering that Dusty was the highest paid player in 2022 (2022 being the final year before the 2023-27 CBA) on an estimated 1.2-1.3 million a year that is 53-66% growth. Considering that the CBA delivered a 37% increase to the salary cap over the life of the deal I think it is safe to say the affect that the CBA has had on the top earners in the game has been greater than the increase to the cap.

Daicos is already signed to 2029 any long term extension will see his contract extended not just through the next CBA but into the one after that. It is not in his best interests to entertain an extension

Forge Ben King. Open the cheque book and get Jack Gunston

All I have to say is that there should be a maximum wage alongside the minimum. And more of the afl cash going to funding kids in the state leagues and other divisions.

The americanisation of the sport has gone far enough.

Don't the stars get contracts with a salary cap increase resulting in a salary increase?

We don't know details about his current contract. We don't know any details about a contract extension. It's complete guesswork. There's lots of ways in which an extension now could be in Nick's financial interests and lots where it couldn't be.

I'd like to see list sizes return to at least pre-covid times.

So is this where we are now?
A player renews their contract with more money but not long after, another player gets monster deal so players then want to negotiate their contracts that still have years to go.
These multi year mega millions are going to kill the game.
Everyone will be wanting more and more money.
