Fly is aware West is due for selection given he was a recent emergency. So which others is he ignoring who deserve selection and who do they replace.
You could easily omit 4-5 names from the senior team on either system balance or form.

And if we are going to limp into the middle tier of the ladder you may as well prioritise some other players for these 4-5 spots.

West, Parker, Reef(obviously once fully cleared from injury), Hayes (hopefully he stays in the team), Anderson (we can’t win any contested ball and offers more than Long does who is wasting midfield minutes at moment.
Even Swadling changes up the profile of the team compared to what we have out there currently.

I’ve been saying our balance in team is way out but the couch is going tried and tested …problem is it isn’t improving and I don’t think it will …it could get away from us very quickly and we will lose valuable time if we don’t act quicker than what we are and make some statements and put selection pressure on some “senior” players

Our list is in a serious pickle.

In the next 3 seasons we will say goodbye to

Pendles
Sidebottom
Crisp
Howe
Elliot
Degoey
Moore?
Membrey
Cameron?
McStay

Unfortunately we don’t have anything promising coming through under 22.

It’ll be intesting the strategy we go with.

Unfortunately no currency to get some picks in either.

Agree that some players like Lippa would respond well to some tough love at selection
One or two weeks in the magoos isn’t going to kill them and might sharpen them up for rest of season
Penalize a few to educate a thousand

Who are the 4-5 senior omissions.

You can’t have it both ways ie criticize Fly not blooding kids in the past (per your Melb example), and then to say but only pick them, if we limp into mid tier on the table.

We just played long, Steele, Steene, Hayes, Allan. That’s 5 younger fresh faces.

Not sure how many we are supposed to play tbh.

So in your opinion, none of the following show promise?

Jakob Ryan-21
Charlie West 20
Joel Cochran 20
Will Hayes 19
Sam Swadling 19
Tyan Prindable 19
Tew Jiath 21
Iliro Smit 20
Zac McCarthy 18
Jai Saxena 18
Noah Howes 20

You’re making the huge and erroneous assumption that we don’t already have players who can replace some on this list.
And then even worse that we will waste the next 3 season without recruiting decent replacements.

Correct. At this stage none of them have shown anything.

Of course. It can turn around quickly. We also nailed Daisy and Pendles picks.
A side that gets ignored but won a flag and is resetting very shrewdly is the dees.
Look good with a modern game decent younguns and a smattering of a and b+ players.
Great recruits.
Should be a model we follow.
Maybe not finals but will be at least wild card this year

Still have Daicos x2 Maynard IQ Houston Moore will be there still Cameron
Still decent enough core.
Need players like West etc to come in and displace the seniors. Than shrewd drafting and FAs.

Define what? Literally none of them have showed a single shred of evidence they’ll be quality afl players. None of decent draft picks of highly touted either.
If you said we don’t know for sure if any of them will go onto be 200 game players for us, but a few like west have looked good in the vfl, then id agree with you. Saying none have showed anything is just completely false

None of shown anything at AFL level. It’s not uncommon for 18-20 year olds to be given games these guys are basically unseen. Some might end up being on sure, but they are all unknown and poor draft picks.

Local level players perform well at VFL it doesn’t mean they’ll perform well in AFL. I take VFL form with an absolute grain of salt.

You’re putting a large number of players on AFL lists in that boat. It’s hardly an insightful observation.

Honestly out of this crop, the few that stand out:
West
Hayes
Swadling
Prindable
McCarthy
Saxena

The rest are there just to fill out an AFL list spot and won’t likely be there in 3-4 years. I hope i’m wrong but at this point it’s look that way.
But saying that not even one of them have showed promise is just absurd.

We don’t have one best 22 lock player under 23 atm and 10 above 30. That’s a huge concern.

Concern about what? Our flag chances this year or next? Yes true, because our oldies don’t have fresh legs anymore but having a bunch of <23 running around probably doesn’t get us there anyway.

About our flag chances in 2028-2030? Disagree because you took an arbitrary number and a 25-28yo today is still relevant for these years and we have 3-5 off seasons to add to the list by then.

For our flag chances 2030+? Just irrelevant and unpredictable. Unless you’re willing to say hand on heart that you think Essendon is a flag chance there because they have a bunch of 18-20yos drafted with high picks. It’s not how things work and before you use Brisbane as a counter example for both contending for the now and having youth, please give us extra AFL assistance when we’re down, an academy and give us a few more top 5 rated f/s in our contending period and then we’ll see what type of list we can build with the same playing field.

Concern about the demographic of our list. We need to be smart not to fall off a cliff right around Tassie time.

Unfortunately if we don’t navigate it well we could be absolutely cooked
