I

In a game where the final score was barely reflective. That was the game where the ball went between his legs and then he sunk a snap across the goals and out on the full. He had 3 more hit outs than Billy Longer - whoever that is. I take your point that he is the victim of his own previous performances. But why can't we expect the same level of performance if he is getting the same level of pay? I think we have been dangled a Preuss flavoured carrot, got excited by some big bloke with some enthusiasm and a willingness to throw his weight around and that hasn't helped Goldstein supporter wise, but it is up to him to turn that around. Perhaps its too late. But why not give Preuss and Daw the remaining games this year?
I think he was up by about 10 hit outs in the first quarter and then after that, Longer beat him. Hardly worthy of BOG.

When (not if) opposition recruiters read this thread, Goldy's value will be about as much as a white '74 Datsun 120Y coupe and we will be stuck paying most of his salary elsewhere. Sshhhh.

IMHO I think Goldy has been building and has been solid recently. When at his peak he was close to being in the top 5 players in the comp. He played last year through an ankle injury and that his explains his drop in hitouts and contested marking, as he probably hasn't regained that power in his ankle.

I believe everyone is super critical because of what he brought to the side in his peak and with Preuss in the two's, there's more pressure building. So I think it's a harder decision than we think whether to play Preuss or Goldy, because to me, Goldy still brings a lot into the side and is close to returning to his best.

I thought he was building, but even in the saints game he effectively broke even with Billy Longer and last week got beaten by Tom Campbell. The only player he has really beaten this year was Pedersen, but even then Pedo probably broke even around the ground.

If you are regularly breaking even and someone is performing below you, unless the team is winning you are a candidate to be replaced.

I love Goldy and would prefer him to remain at the club playing his best footy. However, the longer this slump goes the less optimistic I am that he can get back there, even if he is injured or dealing with other issues, it's lunacy for him to escape the scrutiny that an A grader would receive.

Watching other lumbering ruckman, including absolute spuds like Tom Campbell having significant influences on the match shows exactly where Goldy is at.

I'd be playing Pruess purely to send a message to this Goldstein imposter to shape up or be carted off to somewhere around the country.

How about the fact that he is still playing through the same injury that curtailed his multiple dicks last year so no, he is not close to returning to his best. He needs the freakin' surgery. Get it done, Euge!

No benefit playing him thinking we'll get a decent pick for him, because we won't.

Best way forward I see it is that he is done for the season, has surgery/rest and beds down a dual ruck combo role with Preuss in the off season and comes back fresh in a revised role next year. If he isn't up for that, then he moves on in the best interests of both parties.

This is actually not a bad idea. Goldy has kicked bags of 5 so he knows how to kick them. Meanwhile, Hale and McIntosh were forced out of the club because they could't hold down a key forward spot as we accommodated Goldy's superior tap ruck skills. Let him fight for a spot as a key forward and back up ruck while Preuss is given his chance. It's the current Majak role and previously the Drew role. Goldy would make a pretty decent pinch hitter in the ruck if he was told to wear some bruises for 5 minutes each quarter. Especially after Preuss has spent the rest of the quarter tenderising the opposition.

deserves an absolute bake. the bloke just doesn't seem interested anymore and is seriously going through the motions. the form of 13/14/15 is a distant memory now. something needs to be done- possibly a demotion to the VFL. Psicosis was spot on when he raised the 'Goldstein vs Preuss issue' at the start of the year. it is very much a discussion topic now- i would be tearing my hair out if Preuss continues to get overlooked and then seeks opportunities at a new club due lack of playing time beneath a currently inept Goldstein.

Pretty sure we have a whole thread dedicated to him already.
