I reckon he must have thought “what is going on here?” when he first arrived but to his credit he made our on ballers look a bit more organised at stoppages. I would have given him the captaincy this year due to our glaring lack of leadership. Great pick up especially if we can get a couple more good years out of him.

I know some posters, particularly in the trade&fa thread have a problem with his recruitment and taking minutes away from young players. That's bulls*** imo

The only ones Luke was keeping out of the side were WillPhil who almost certainly won't make it as an AFL player and Urquhart who isn't ready. Even at 32 he's still clearly a better footballer than them, and that's not including his leadership and big game experience.

Powell lost midfield minutes too him as well. I've got little sympathy though, he was in there at the start and lost it on performance while he should be entering his prime.

He's not taking minutes away from anyone.

The young blokes need him in the middle. Someone needs to direct and show the way.
Bingo.

Losing 10% midfield time each for the young blokes is a small price to pay given that their remaining midfield time is much more mindful and intentional with Luke's guidance.

50% midfield time with intent beats 60% midfield time headless chooking.
