Instead of everyone talking feverishly about delicious dimmies and the finer points of rice cooking in anticipation of something awesome, half the fam here have gone lord of flies in expectation of the incoming shitstorm we’re about to weather.

It became lord of the flies when Sphynx got a rock rolled onto his head by Warlord for simply calling out Tarryn's fitness.

Sorta fits with what I was told. AFL wants blood but NM want it to be more realistic. AFL talking deregister - NM saying a substantial suspension.
Well who knows if the punishment fits the "crime." How does society compare his behavior to that of thugs who carry out cowardly attacks on others. The bloke who attacked JZ what did he get a 20k fine. Deregistering a player is way more severe than anything the courts would hand out, in the name of protecting the AFL's "integrity". Where the hell is the AFLPA in all of this? De-registering takes away the players livelihood, in a profession that is about the only path to a better life for many kids from disadvantaged backgrounds. I seem to remember Dennis Pagan turning up to court as a character witness for a player, to keep him out of prison, saying he belongs in the structured environment of a football club, without that structure society as a whole will be worse off. Glenn Archer and others have said publicly that if not for football, their life would have taken a much different path and probably involve prison time. No doubt TT needs help and needs to be in a structured environment, perhaps with a bit of tough love at times, but the problem is the whole Hawthorn situation and the AFL's handling of it, pretty much prevents clubs from providing that same sort of structure they have in the past, rightly or wrongly. My personal hope, is we continue to work with Tarryn to make him a better person. I'd rather see him tearing up the NRL than going to another AFL club. How would that look for the AFL, if he turned things around in another sporting code and became a pinup boy redemption story?

Gunna be quite something when the AFL go all heavy handed on Tarryn to set an example.

And then late in the season a golden boy white player from a club the AFL really wants playing finals does exactly the same if not worse.
Agree, punishment needs to fit the "crime" whatever that may be, if not you would have to think TT's legal representatives have been spending the the last couple of weeks digging up precedents. Either that or this will create one hell of a precedent which could come back to haunt the AFL.

Isn't there a richmond player still playing after being charged with armed robbery. How come that's OK .
This is a point worth discussing.

As far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong), the AFL doesn't have the equivalent of the NRL 'no fault stand down' policy. This was introduced to deal with the steady stream of NRL players charged with violent sexual assault and rape, and sees the player charged with such crimes stood down until the charge is heard (although the player can continue to train, be at the club etc, so its not a 'suspension' in the way it applies in the AFL).

If the AFL had such a policy, Marlion Pickett would be stood down (I think he's back in court in March), but lacking one, it cannot conduct its own integrity investigation without contaminating the criminal process (and hence it has taken no action to date).

So I think you make a good point that something like the NRL 'no fault stand down' should reasonably find a home in the AFL, to avoid the situation where Pickett is at work and Thomas has been suspended (formally or informally)

Now that we've all heard the indiscretions in detail and confirmed what the penalty handed will be, I guess we can move onto some of the more positives points out of all this. He opens up a highly sort after mid forward role... who's taking it?

This will go in for months, TT will have legal team involved if the result is to deregister or lengthy suspension. I still can’t get my head around the AFL now sit above any criminal proceedings, WTF? Get the popcorn, hopefully Vegas brings the Broncos undone and they become the news.

Because it was demonstrable bullshit.

I don't think we would be utilising Thomas properly if he had to run himself ragged at every single contest then win the ball like as if it's not going to get him injured.

His role is to extract the ball, break lines and kick goals. If we are using him to just run all day then he won't have much tank left to get away from the pack. Which is his biggest asset. Two way running and then being that explosive player isn't compatible.

Thomas is an exciting player and should be treated as such. Utilise his strengths instead of trying to correct weaknesses that aren't really that bad anyway. He can still apply heaps of pressure and has good closing speed. His tackling is also so much better than his teammates.

If Thomas is stuck at the back of the contest because he has to be defensively minded instead of being that lethal offensive type we may as well trade the bloke because his best work is up the ground closer to goal.

His opponent will get separation just as the same as all the other 21 blokes his teammates are looking after. There's no such thing as 4 quarter two-way running.

If we take our chances and kick heaps of goals, that's what hurts opposition ultimately. Making them more defensively accountable as opposed to trying all day just to have no energy to pinch it.

So, you have a demonstrated ability to deploy half cooked, defective and untested components faster than the support team can detect and fix them.

I can see chief making you an attractive offer by later this afternoon.

Am I right in understanding that the story is along the lines of;

Allegations have been brought up by the female he recently ceased having a relationship with?

The allegations relate to events from 18 months ago?

The female involved is the same female who raised allegations 12-18 months ago?
If this is the case then he hasn't done anything wrong since his corrective program and we stick by him 100%
