AND IT WAS DROPPED. NOT CONVICTED OF DV.

This isn't strictly true though resides in "technically true" hence it's easy to see where real absolution came from.

It was a charge of threatening to distribute an intimate image and after Tarryn went through a large number of "offending programs" (behavioural change/social media etc) the prosecution agreed to a downgrade charge of using a carrier service to harass which was then discontinued under a diversion program on the premise Tarryn paid $1000 to the court fund, with the magistrate imploring him to use his status and redemption arc as a way to be a mentor to indigenous youth with mental health issues. He worked his arse off to prove he shouldn't have this on his permanent criminal record. I guess this is why so many are disappointed that this may end up being recent allegations as he had all of that hanging over him, was given a second chance and may have blown it within months.

Say this jilted ex's motivation to report straight to the AFL was solely to impact TT's professional career above all else, wouldn't that be considered a form of DV? i:e: "If you leave me, I'm going to report you to the AFL"?

It would be considered blackmail but that would also need the introduction of a jilted ex character and no rumoured abusive text messages.

It doesn't matter what her motivations are or what part she played in the conflict. Tarryn did something wrong, even though we don't know what. All that is left is to kick him to the kerb, no questions asked.

I doubt its as simple as that. I doubt that the AFL would take more than a few minutes to see that as a frivolous accusation and say to her "nothing to see here".

Whatever it is, that he is alleged to have done, it must surely fit in the exceptionally serious category of actions.

Say she was deliberately baiting him to illicit a desired response in order to use that response against him as some kind of insurance or payback should he choose to leave her. Blackmail is most certainly a form of DV.

I dunno, it would have to be provable but even then it wouldn't excuse his responses.

More than anything, TT was a fool to remain in a relationship with this woman after the first round of allegations.
I don't think there's any doubt that TT is a fool

Tell that to Todd Viney and probably a few other club staff. Hell of a lot of hours have gone into trying to sort out TT and his issues.
I assumed the point QueenslandRoo is making is that it isn't affecting the playing list or the coaching staff. Which I would agree with, and it opens an opportunity for our many mids.

The TT situation will go where it goes, but right now this will provide a great opportunity for a mid in our team to take a spot in the best 22.

Todd and Jen are there to sort stuff out, including this. Issues happen in every business and this will be just one of those issues for them.

the whole TT saga brings into question professional footy clubs ability to interfere in players private circumstances. Clarko and the Hawks were criticised for going too deep into players private lives (not getting into the merits of that whole saga).

Here TT has essentially been left to his own devices and it’s cost him most likely his career.

dammed if you do. Dammed if you don’t.

The other 44 blokes on the list seem to have managed their personal lives just fine on their own.

It may be an issue of 'damned if you're a hotheaded campaigner who doesn't learn from his mistakes, not damned if you're not'

Not saying that happened but if it did it would fit the wry broad definition of domestic violence for sure.

As would a person trying to manipulate their partner’s behaviour with sex.

As would all the people described as “hen pecked”.

But no one really cares about that type of domestic violence.

Regardless of Tarryn's outcome, what is the reason Marlion Pickett isn't being stood down pending trial, under AFL investigation or being discussed for deregistration?

Is it as simple as an outright criminal matter is out of AFL (and the suddenly ethical media it seems) hands, but questionable conduct around the edges allows the AFL and media carte Blanche should they choose?
I think your last comment is on the money.

The AFL and media go to great lengths to not make public comment on matters before the courts, and not standing a player down or suspending is part of that - I think they are worried that it would be their employer making a public statement that they are guilty.

If Pickett is found guilty, no doubt there'll be some AFL or club penalty, possibly a sacking, maybe a deregistration (as happened with Ben Cousins, of course). And FWIW, Pickett was not stood down after being charged but did miss a game, listed as being for personal reasons.

Fair enough. Not all 44 blokes had the upbringing TT had but ultimately it’s clear you got no interest in any excuses for TT.

Not all the 44 blokes got mentored by a professional sporting organization from 15 years of age either.

There are zero excuses, Tarryn was involved with the NMFC from year 10 in his schooling and onwards.
