A 26-year-old man has been charged with murdering a toddler following her suspicious death in the NSW Hunter region seven weeks ago.

Emergency services were called to a house in Tarro, near Newcastle, in June after reports a 20-month-old child was in cardiac arrest. She died.

The toddler suffered significant injuries to her torso, head and internal organs.

The 26-year-old was in a de-facto relationship with the girl's mother and had been living with them for a short time.

The child was taken by NSW Ambulance paramedics to John Hunter Hospital, but later died.

The Tanilba Bay house where the man was arrested today was that of another woman he had started seeing romantically.

People have information about her injuries and the police have to beg for it. Really? She wasn't even two years old and there are people who don't want to talk. If that's true it's them too, culpable.

"Detectives have been investigating the incident for the past six weeks and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

"The investigation is still ongoing, we still believe there are people that can assist with this investigation, we believe that there are people who may have information in relation to the injuries that the young baby suffered," Chief Inspector Walpole said."

Throw away the key and put him in the general pop of the prison with a copy of his charge sheet handed to all the inmates. So many of these types of crimes are committed by defactos.

In that kind of toxic and oppressive environment where a child's life has so little value, it's not hard to imagine something like that happening again and it goes unpunished.

Was hoping when the double jeopardy laws were relaxed, they might have had enough to go after Domaszewicz again.

Her mother's been charged with manslaughter.

Jessica Greatorex, 22, was arrested at her Tarro home in the NSW Hunter region early this morning, almost two months after her 20-month-old daughter Hayley Rose suffered a cardiac arrest.

Hayley was rushed to John Hunter Hospital with her mother following in an ambulance behind, but she was unable to be revived.

A post mortem revealed she suffered injuries to her head, torso and internal organs, including broken ribs and a collapsed lung.

Last week Ms Greatorex's partner Timothy Andrew Whiteley, 26, was charged with murder over Hayley's death.
