Yes, he did.....and no, he didn't.
He was both a good pick up and a wasted pick.
He has both lots of potential and will fail to make the grade.
He should be in the side and he should be playing VFL.
I hope he his picked for Saturday and I also hope he is dropped....

Well that has just confused me even more. Maybe we could have a round about discussion on each point.

Firstly though, I need to know did he cost us a first rounder or not.

Just a little tongue in cheek synthesis of the merry-go-round debate that this thread has become. Sorry to confuse even more. I am just as confused about his trade and value, going from glass half full to glass half empty to filling and emptying the Jed glass so often that I'm ready to head of to AA....

Mine was tounge in cheek too my friend.

Just need Viper2Jester to clarify again for us what pick he really cost us.

Lets just go with the good old "Once they walk through the door the number doesn't mean anything anymore."

He's a 22 yo kid coming off several LTI's at a new club with new structures trying to fit into a new team. Hes come straigh back into the side underdone after another injury.

Lets give him 2 more preseasons and some time before we really start to judge.

Personally i think there is plenty of upside to young Jed.

Despite costing number 15 (lol), anyone suggesting we "wasted" (not me) that pick is plain wrong.

Really needs to do more damage when he gets it, but he works hard defensively - I think the trade/s worked in our favour as Basti was limitied.

Hope he kills it against the Crows :thumbsu:

Jed Anderson out to repay the faith for North Melbourne trade

JED Anderson has endured a frustrating first season at North Melbourne but Saturday night’s knockout final looms as his time to shine.

Anderson, 22, will run out against Adelaide for just his 10th game in Roos’ colours set on taking the first of many steps towards repaying the faith shown in him by the club.

The Roos invested heavily at the trade table (pick 15) last year to acquire the former Hawthorn speedster who had struggled with injury.

That wretched run continued this year as Anderson missed 13 games after shredding his hamstring early in the first round.

The injury compounded the pressure Anderson was under given the price North Melbourne paid for him.

“At the start of the season it really weighed on my mind a little bit, and then getting injured didn’t really help,” Anderson said.

“But I sat down with the club and they were really happy with how I’d gone over the pre-season and getting injured was (just) unfortunate.”

The past nine games have been more positive, but far from satisfactory, averaging just 10 disposals and three tackles a game.

“I’m really growing and trying to secure my spot in this team,” Anderson said.

“I think my game’s growing each week — I’ve taken the confidence the club (put in me) and want to give it back.”

Anderson has enjoyed learning from mentors Brent Harvey, Daniel Wells and Lindsay Thomas, who play similar roles.

“Wellsy’s composure around the ball — he’s in and out — and how Boomer gets going forward and really creates his opportunities to kick goals,” Anderson said.

“I’ve taken a bit of both of those and really using my speed and agility around the ball to do those things.”

Those attributes will be crucial if underdog North is to upset Adelaide and progress in the finals series.

“We want to really open space for us to work into and work back and forward and isolate our one-on-ones so that the Adelaide backline can’t come over and impact with their spares.”

The winner will play the loser of Saturday’s qualifying final between Sydney and Greater Western Sydney at the SCG or Spotless Stadium next week.

on another unrelated note, after using the $50 note to buy the beer, it is gone and you can't use that $50 note again. :)
Well if you buy that beer at Platform 28 then your whole 50 is gone.........

So he did cost us pick 15.
Not alone.

In: Jed Anderson (Hawthorn), picks 17, 26, 28 and 47
Out: Daniel Currie, Ryan Bastinac, picks 15, 34 and 55; 2016 third-round pick

2015 draft picks: 17, 26, 28, 47, 73, 91, 109, 127

Filled a need: The Roos' reliance on Brent Harvey to break the lines and Daniel Wells' ongoing injury woes meant they desperately needed to bring some pace and dare into the line-up – which former Hawk Jed Anderson has in spades. The young gun has had some misfortune with injury and illness, but boasts plenty of talent and should be a handy acquisition, keen to prove himself after only 10 games in three years.

Still to find: Anderson helps in the speed department, but the Roos still need more quality outside ball-users with a bit of dash. With three picks inside the top 30, they could target more speed in the draft. - Travis King

Nathan Schmook's verdict: James Aish was the Kangaroos' main target but they were unable to convince him to join the club over Collingwood, despite the Lions stating their preference to deal with North. They worked the pick swaps well with Hawthorn in the Anderson trade and maintained a first-round presence, which was important. It was a quieter period than you'd expect for a team in North Melbourne's position, however, shooting for a premiership in the short-term and needing improvements.

Rating: C

He had a very ordinary Pre-season and shouldn't have been picked in the Round 1 team. I don't see the upside in this kid. He's not quick, poor skills, composure and can't go below his knees to pick up the football.

Actions speak louder than words.......

So he did cost us pick 15.

No, picks were traded in 38 & 40.

We probably would have picked McKay anyway.

Hawthorn used that pick on Ryan Burton.

And to put it in perspective, Collingwood parted with 4 picks over 2 drafts for James Aish and got 2 lesser ones in return :).

I still think he'll be a gun. Watch him bloom next year.

I hope he and clark get a go tomorrow in finals footy. Fast track the development and provide some focus over the offseason.

I have a source at Hawthorn. Asked him about Anderson when we got him. He said hes a good kid, really courageous but he's an ordinary kick and his body is an issue. So far this seems pretty accurate. The hawks were laughing when they got 15 but were also pretty surprised when we ended up back in the first round the way we did. Whoever worked out we gave up pick in the 40's for him (all things taken into account), if thats correct, thats probably about his value and no one needs to get their knickers in a twist.

The only thing that does piss me off is losing Harvey to gift blokes like him games.

I must admit im a bit concerned at where Jed's at, still quietly confident he will come good but he hasnt executed any part of his game very well in what we've seen. Posters have mentioned his kicking, handballing, ground skills and awareness had been poor so reading the article and he mentioned how being traded for our first round pick weighed on his mind. I have no doubt he is carrying a lot of expectations and is feeling "under the spotlight" each and every time he gets the ball. I guess it makes sense he has been chasing and tackling very well as he doesn't have the ball. Now I'm only spitballing here and maybe reading too much into it but just to make sure, Jack should pull him aside this week and tell him to lighten the **** up and just go and get the ball and to reassure him that the playing group don't give a flying **** where he was drafted but that we need his head in the game and not somewhere else.

Continuing to spitball, by admitting that he felt under pressure to perform, considering what the club gave up to get him, this may free up his mind as a result of his purge. Could we seem glimpses this week, a cameo of 3 goals for example, how would we all feel if Jed laid 9 tackles, had 15 possies and kicks 4 goals in a famous victory? :D . I bet we would think a first rounder might be a bargain. Either way, if he doesnt improve for the rest of the year, we need to give him at least an injury free pre season before judging him harshly.

Cmon Jed, **** the pressure. Look at it and laugh. I AM JED!!!!!!

Look, it doesn't matter what pick you were, once you get to the club, you're all the same.

Unless you're Jed Anderson, in which case you're (15 +55) - (38 +40)
..........................................................................Bastinac deal

That's true, but of course people's expectations are going to be higher when you pay more, rather than say, get a bloke via the rookie list.

I'm hopeful he will be fine and become a gun, or play a role at very least, but there are legitimitate concerns with his skill level both at Hawks and with us.
