Player Watch #30: Reece Conca

Again conca isn't average paced. This is a pre draft write up of him

The Swans need midfield speed and versatility and Conca has loads of it. Smart, creative type who remains composed and can play inside and outside. Loves to use his pace and run and carry but can play above his height.
Do you actually watch players. Mate ive seen Conca right thru from colts in WA to now. He aint quick.
Hve you come across a write up about players that dont talk them up. For gods sakes use your eyes and make your own mind up rather than relying on reporters who most of the time have nfi.

By the way just about everyone would have him in front of Hunt it is hardly an endorsement.

He was going on pre draft reports from seven years ago. Plus he also forgot that Conca has lost most of his so called speed due to hamstring injuries. He must have been referring to Luke. ;)

He certainly did...
look this is a debate between grown ups. If you have something of substance to add id suggest you add it. But a little advice. Sometimes it is best to say nothing and be thought a fool. Rather than speaking and removing all doubt. Over to you bud.

by a country mile.

Hunt is supposed to be depth only in an area we were under manned in at the time of his drafting

To do what though, tag? He wasn't drafted for that. They thought he was going to be a tough inside mid that had a decent kick on him.

Hunt has more experience tagging/negating than conca. Maybe he reinvent himself like Tucky. Just win the pill at all costs and let the others do the rest

Conca is a solid B- player, we need those as no team can be 22 superstars. he has his limitations but id much prefer him having to be the in and under mid than cotch. I want cotch back to where he won the brownlow, we've attempted to address that this off-season and hopefully, Conca, should he get a good run at it with injuries will help that out

I agree but they have to play him there and not in the back pocket or HBFwhere his disposal is iffy

Not wrong... :)
Is that it son. Best you leave it to the adults. One consolation while off topic at least you can't make a fool of yourself with such one liners.

For gods sake of course he is not a B grader. If hes a B grader we have 20 A graders.
If you read what is being said by people no one not one person has advocated we have 22 superstars. Fair dinkum id like a dollar for every time this line has been thrown out when defending rfc players.

The debate has been about very ordinary players to date, Step in Conca. if we can not do better than them or at worst ty and do better then will never go anywhere. Why is the bar set so low with some people.

That's all there is Pops....when you make sense I may try just that little harder to reply....

Try reading what i actually said.

Never stated we have 22 superstars, im saying we CANT have 22 and HAVE to have solid role players such as Conca

20 A graders? now your seriously understating him, those are his stats from the years he wasnt just written off from injury by
Capture.PNG

slightly under 20 disposals, 3.8 marks and 3.7 tackles a game. that is a solid B MINUS to me

he's no superstar but he does what is expected of him and does it well

Agree...+1
I'm just waiting for the goal posts to be shifted again in relation to Reecey...perhaps from Superstar to Ordinary to give it my last negative shot,,,,

Read my post and i said no one thinks we need 22 superstars. If that did not come across like that then apologies it is what was meant. But wait lets get into a you said he said debate. How often does that happen around here.I would have thought it was clear what was meant.

How you rate Conca is your business but for the journey IMO and a lot of others he is barely up to standard.
FFS he averages 18 disposals a game it aint good enough. But wait theres more.
Hmm 3 tackles a game, 6 contested possesions, 2 clearances , 1.5 rebounds he has played across h/b too. it goes on and on every single thing so far says average and you think him a B grader. No one wanted this bloke i wonder why that was.Yet we give him 2 yrs how dumb are we.

when have i shifted goal posts on him?

i've never expected him to be a superstar just a solid performer

Those stats are for an 18 - 22 year old play, who played across the half forward through the centre. Not bad. When ready to transition into a full time mid he blew his hammies. You're cherry picking stats to suit your argument. Conca may well never make it back, but you like I will never know until he gets a good run at it.

Gonna be a good season for Conca, I really think so.

Again, is not an A-grader but now having some significant time injury free, will be very important to us as a pure midfielder.

We may lament the loss of Deledio, but our midfield will actually be significantly boosted by inclusions of Vlastuin, Conca, Caddy and Prestia. The output of Martin and Cotchin will skyrocket.

The argument that Conca is crap based on his performance since tearing his hamstring off the bone is solid - as long as Conca stays injured.

If he gets fit and stays fit then we see what he can actually do. I have seen enough of him when fit (for a game or 2 at a time) and I am confident that he will be valuable. He is good inside, good outside, tackles, does 1%s, and can snag a goal. The elements are there for a good player. His injury history just has me very worried. I can't see why he got 2 years. He must be close to write off territory. Due to injury not talent.

This thread has been an argument between those seeing him as a talented, but injury prone player, and those seeing his 'injured' form as what he is. I want to have this cleared up, by him playing 22 games uninjured. I expect that to not happen and no one to be happy about it.

Not gonna get into the grading of players, but I saw Q4 of the Gold Coast game last season where we came back from 3 goals down to win by 3 goals. It was also Conca's first game back since his injury in pre-season.

Cotchin and Dusty were the best two in that quarter for mind with the latter playing forward and creating the last 2 goals. Who enabled Dusty to play forward and supported Cotch in the middle? It was Conca. Didn't dominate but did more than enough (especially a three possession 10 seconds in tight that propelled the ball forwars for a goal) at stoppages and around the ground.

Has a role to play if he can get himself healthy. Hope he does and hope he will.

Conca a B grader. Very optimistic. I have supported this guy but it's hard to think he'll ever deliver. I have got to the point where I'd rather invest games in our youth. I agree he has talent, however, the question is what is in RFC's best interest regarding him? I think he is nothing more than a bit player presently and games would be better directed at some of the draftees, even though they may struggle. Sadly Conca has become a classic list clogger. It will take a huge immediate turn around to convince me he is worth persisting with.

Lets hope he has a magnificent year and fremantle ask for Reece as a swap for Weller when he asks to be traded to Richmond along with Nat Fyfe coming over as a FA
I'll drink to that.
