I see no reason for Goater to not make it, I've done an achilles and mine is fine. They can remind you occasionally, I though was told by the surgeon, they're stronger than before.

The strained muscles, is something that settles done.

Cannot wait until he's up and about.

Archer Comben ???

Half Mile Whitlock Goater

Like most I've run out of patience and want it now.

Quad again 🤕

Defender Josh Goater's return has been delayed after a setback during his recovery from quad/hamstring injuries.

"Unfortunately, during a football session last week, Josh had a re-aggravation of his previous quad strain in a kicking drill," North Melbourne head of performance Kevin White said.

"It now pushes his return to play back, which is disappointing for Josh and the club.

"The performance and medical team are continually working with external specialists in challenging our programming to find a solution to gaining resilience in his soft tissue to withstand football demands."

I really think people are overthinking this. I doubt the club expected a heap out of Goater this year coming back from the achillies injury - although I'm sure they're disappointed with repeat injuries so close to a return. A quad doesn't seem that unusual nor career threatening at this point.

Is he safe as houses, no, but there are a list of players ahead of him that even fit don't look long term and he is safer than them.

Suggests that they're at least a bit baffled by what's going on. You're not safe if you're injured. No safer than a spud who manages to stay healthy through shirtfronts, cyclones, break-ups

Oh agree, not safe, but not first out the door even if he has a ? on him for fitness. Obviously some time until list decisions but I'd personally be surprised if he isn't here next year.

Just needs to focus on getting right for pre-season now, if he manages to play a couple of matches towards then end of the year then that would be a bonus.
Was going to say…
Is it at the point now where he just focuses on 2026? *providing we give him a contract extension.

I’m sorry, but if we are giving contracts to RHJ & B George (I’m all for the latter) then we need to persist with Goater. He is actually good.

*not directed at you shintemaster
just noting that he deserves a contract extension

Speaking from experience quad strains can be a real pain to manage.

The quad recovers quickly but re-loading the injured muscle is fraught with danger because your body often gives you a sense that it’s fully recovered. Not like a hammy when the pain from the strain lingers a lot longer.

The rehab process isn’t as straight forward as a hammy either as it’s really dependent on what part of the quad has been strained. Excessive force leading to strains can either come from the hip or knee or a combination of both.

Anyway, it sucks. But it’s not world ending. Confident Goater can get on top of it all and press his claims later on in the year.
