you're prob right.. but Roberts was dropped last year for 4-5 games.
I think Roberts lack of leg speed is a real disadvantage to him, in the midfield as well. Parkers skills, toughness, endurance etc were all very good, but we saw last year his speed really drop off and he would get left behind at the contest.
Roberts speed and endurance aren't up to scratch

Roberts is not quick - probably one of the reasons why he slid to our second pick that draft - but his endurance is fine. Not all players can be quick and I reckon he can compensate for it other ways. He's a strong contested ball winner, has a great leg and a good footy brain. That should be enough for a successful career. It's a pity he isn't dual-sided.

Got a few mates

I just want someone, anyone, who can win the ball in the middle of the ground.

I don't care if they are fast, slow, good endurance, a good bloke, a crap kick, whatever ...

Just anyone who can win contests in tight, not get pushed out of the way, and not fumble.

We got handled by Ned Long on Friday night. Ned Long!!!

I agree about the middle, but I think the McCartin forward experiment is just an embarrassment. It’s obvious that TMac isn’t and will never be even a mediocre forward and it’s painful that our coach seems determined to turn him into one.

I don’t think he’s a good mark at all. He’s decent at uncontested intercepts, but that’s about all.

I think he is a good grab in defence generally and on a lead though he does fumble a few like Friday.

Either way I am with you he is a defender

We have no one who is a reliable contested mark down the line which is a big part of why we seem to hit a brick wall when the corridor is taken away from us. McCartin forward is an attempt to fix this but I agree, the rest of his forward craft is not good

McCartin is one of our best marks because we're a terrible marking team. Lost the contested marks 11-1, as the coach pointed out in his presser. We miss Sam Reid.

At the risk of picking at almost week old scabs, geez I was disappointed with Lloyd and Rampe. On a night when the Pies' old boys were fabulous, these two guys in particular were, well, frankly, putrid.

Couple of faithful old warriors who have given us great service over the years, but they won't want to dish up many more games like that.

Rampe doesn't even punch from behind anymore

I think if the situation was reversed, and Collingwood were coming off a 6 day break, and we were coming off an 8 day break, our old timers would have played much better, and theirs might have struggled .

It seemed to me that both Rampe and Lloyd were struggling to fully recover from last week's game and it's no coincidence that they are the ones people seem most disappointed with.

Who's the spuds you talk of
Collingwood - Ned Long
GWS - Daniel Lloyd and Sam Reid
GC - Nick Holman and Darcy Macpherson
Bombers - Nick Hind
Port - Powell-Pepper and Drew

Above are not necessarily spuds but seem to play well above their usual output when they line up against us.

I reckon there is a whole sub-genre of AFL players in the category "Played their best game of AFL in a GF vs Swans", including Langford Jr, Matt Spangher, Tom Boyd (heck, half that 2016 WB team, many of whom went on to complete football anonymity).

Maybe we need to stick JJ on SPP and not on Butters / Rozee / JHF

Its hilarious and depressing actually i think Lohman will end up a good small forward but he turned into a morph of Modra and Rioli.
