You sure it wasn’t Reynolds

Darcy Daniher did a good job on Fev.
Fev kicked 4 on Darcy. Fev had a bet with Darcy before the game that he’d kick 8.

The Kepler Bradley reincarnation

Memory might be fading but didn’t Paddy Ryder exceptionally well at CHB early in his career?

Certainly not exceptionally well. More a case of us wasting years of his career and hampering his development by playing him clearly out of position for years.

It’s our signature move.

Paddy wasn’t ready for the ruck yet and it gave him AFL exposure, it didn’t hamper him at all

Won an ANZAC day medal in defence didn’t he?

I mean….yes, ruck\forward was very much his go but no reason he couldn’t have been a great CHB. Wouldn’t say clearly out of position - had so much ability, he could play anywhere.

Ruck. Played about 5 minutes at CHB then moved to the ruck because Hillel went down and dominated

that game is still to this day one of my favourite essendon wins

lol he's played 8 games as Defender maybe give him another 8 before moving him to R/F 😜

I'm happy to give him another two years primarily as VFL this year, but getting to be a better and better cover for McKay. Hopefully 2025 he's more AFL than VFL, but I can still live with a mix. He needs a solid twelve months of training to let all the natural man strength build (looks like it is starting to happen in that photo) before he starts to ramp it up in the gym, and I'd be happy if that was a slow burn as well.

Defense is way easier to play than forward. Let him find his feet there and if he's tearing the house down then give him a go forward as a man with confidence.

We still have Wright and plan to play two rucks. I would like to see Cox trialed as a half-forward. Not as a KPP, but a 200 cm version of Gunstan. An extra winger pushing up the ground. I'd love to see Cox, Dursma and Langford building a half-forward line that can run and take a mark. That way then can create room for Wright, Stringer, Gresham, McKenzie et al to be more damaging.

Ruck. He was forced in there when Hille went down with a knee in the first quarter.

He dominated… oh hang on, he’s big, tall, can leap, and is very mobile… maybe he could be a ruck???

O rly

Edit, what eth-dog said

Yes - have acknowledged he won the medal in the ruck.

Still don’t think there was anything wrong with playing him back at that time.

Interesting article in the HS today talking about how much of a guess the 2020 draft was for recruiters with most not seeing much live footy and the Vic boys getting limited games early. One comment that stood out is most will need an extra year or two of development due to not only missing games but also all the training / development work.

I agree with this. This is why I’m not as hard on Perkins, Cox and Reid as some others are. Missing another year on top with injury for this group… well who knows how far it has set them back?

Injury has put Reid back further.
Have been hard on Cox not so much on development but more him playing soft footy this year.
As for Archie I think it has been more a maturity issue but I do not really rate his midfield craft but that is a story for the Perkins thread.:)

Tough luck that this compromised, hard to read draft was the draft for us to get 3 top ten picks

I wasn’t having a go at you specifically just speaking in general. It’s a good point that you raise though. I brought it up earlier in the year on the Perkins thread if I remember correctly saying they had a handicap.

Well he was ready before we were prepared to give him a shot at the very least.

Who knows what impact holding him back had.

We were once the club that picked James Hird at 72 and traded Todd Ridley for Mathew Lloyd. Fml

Picking James Hird at 72 is hardly a draft 'coup' when his father was an Essendon player and his grandfather has a stand named after him.

It would be like Carlton claiming Jack Silvagni was a draft coup.

Hird was a father son?

I don't think they had F/S allowances, but isn't the old quote from Sheedy something like 'you always draft the grandkid of the guy who the stand is named after'
Just thought the comparison to Silvagni, a father son, was a bit of a stretch.

For example other clubs wanted Silvagni, Hird was a projected spud.
