The whole Cloke matter is predicated on the view he is or should be playing football like he did a few years ago.
As a long time passes, he still hasn't found that level or near it.
Hence his predicament.
Solution one: go get ball
Next step: do good things with it.
Last step: repeat ad nauseum..... (Will never be in doubt then)

NB: if Travis WAS playing like he used to, dominating mark, strong beast like forward, there would be ZERO issues with him and he would be an on field colossus - now it's up to him

I'm still concerned about Cloke, but very relieved he did well today.

Regarding his future with us, it seems to hang on how he goes from here. Balmey says we still want him. Cloke says he wants to stay. Even Damir Cloke says he wants to stay. And Bucks' language is - ambivalent? Probably because he is the one dishing out the tough love. You have to be deserving of having Bucks wanting you to stay. And Channel 7 should butt out of it (but they won't).

I've confused myself now.

you only have to look at Leper's press conference yesterday to see the feeding frenzy of the media... I have a very strong desire to put a team of people together to construct an internet site which will progressively target media people in their private lives and just hound them at their weakest. An example that comes to mind would be Mark Robinson who I would drag up all his past indiscretions and bingey nights out and follow him around and continuously ask questions about them..... and ignore his answers and then continue to ask the same questions. I'd like to get details of all his dealings with the police and ask questions about them. Asking for details about fights that he has had in the past with other high profile people. I'd like to get someone to count how many empty bottles are in his weekly rubbish collection. I'd like to get details from any women that have had dealings with him, or if he is so inclined, men. The main purpose of the site would be to ask questions and ignore legitimate answers. I think there would be a strong public interest in such a site.

Cloke has lost pace, he can't get a break on his opponent, therefore he can't run his leading patterns effectively . Therefore he doesn't get the ball on a lead and get a unhindered shot on goal like he was able to do. I don't know why a 29yo let alone why a 27yo started to go into this physical decline, because as a big man in the game he should be at his peak. I watched Petrie last night and in the first half he was able to get that distance on his opponent and he's 32/33ish. So whatever has afflicted Cloke's running, it has also impacted his main strength as an AFL standard player. And I don't think he is going to get it back because if there was ever a year he needed to strip back some weight and possibly regain his mojo, this was it.

And I don't think it is Buckley's fault if Father Time has hit Cloke earlier than anyone would expect.

Like quite a few big men playing the pivotal forward key positions Travis has been battered and bruised for years, often by two three opponents at once. I understand he has some general back matters so it stands to reason he may be in steep physical decline.
When that cliff comes sometimes it's so quick, splat, you're done!

Would be great for Cloke to return to his halcyon days but only he can get there, not Nathan, not father David, not bigfooty experts, just Travis and only Travis.

Here's hoping, but it might be that cliff.....

You have hit on the essence of Robbo's sports journalism, and that of his ilk. In fact, I think all journos should from here on just ask questions, because answers have become irrelevant. Plus it's easier to just ask questions, because if there are answers you have to try and understand them, before asking the next question. That's too hard. Just cut out the middle man (answers).

Gunston is probably the prototype KPF these days.
Able to move the length of the ground with ease all game.
Kicks his 2 or 3 most weeks and helps out the defence when they are looking for a 'get out' player
If Cloke can't do those things his game becomes limited. Cloke, Pavlich and Hawkins (although he is exceptional at what he does) are the last of that breed

well it's not just mark robinson. It's also that pack of generation Yers mealy mouthed, live at home, iPhone worshipping, reality based tv loving, so-called journalists that follow the footy people around. I'd hire a pack of call girls - and call boys - who would go out and get these people into compromising positions and take videos.... and post them on sites so that they would never go away. Call it an education in life. Call it an education in how to be empathetic with your fellow human beings. They are so self-centred and focussed on getting the next story to furthe their career, that they have lost any concept of what is fair and reasonable.

I agree that the answers don't matter because the most important people to the so-called journalists ....is the so-called journalists. It's these journalists who think they are the stars.

Here's another thought I had yesterday. Do you realise how long-winded the questions are from the foxfooty people are, when they interview players or coaches? It's like they are trying to impress everyone with their questions. Instead of asking short questions that will give the footy people an opportunity to express their ideas, they actually give the answers in the questions and are simply requiring the footballer to confirm what the "expert" is saying. Foxfooty does it all the time as all the "experts" try to impress each other and their employers about how much they know. Who gives a crap that brad Johnson predicted the demise of freo. How many predictions did they get wrong? A few hundred?

I think its a shame if Travis goes, its not like there has been any other tall forward has thrived in our forward line in the past 4 years. Pretty much everyone that has tried has been a failure, or they get a pass because they are so young and inexperienced. I love Darcy Moore and Cox, they have so much potential, but getting rid of Cloke will solve nothing. IS there anyone at all ready to fully replace him in the next couple of years? CAn we recruit anyone, beleive it or not players of his ability are hard to find,
Yes he is playing badly, but i dont see it being anything other than confidence. How hard is it to fix? Maybe ask the people responsible for the way he is used..

He can't run, so he has become the updated version of his older brother, the carbon rod. So unless the club finds a cure for a bloke who has lost his burst speed and ability to burn off defenders on long leading patterns, I'd suggest he is a spent force.

You don't think training differently can lighten and quicken him up? He's always had a decent tank. Whatever happens he'll be playing somewhere next year.

no issue with this. he's made himself a media personality not a journalist.

I'd be wary being the one asking him questions or you'd end up on the front page of the HUN accused of something ridiculous.

It's noticable he can't get separation on a lead. I can't remember the last cheap lead, mark, goal he got.

this drives me mad. just asking the flippin question instead of giving 10 second 'look how smart I am' spiel then a question.

Cloke is still more value as a tall forward than anyone else on the list. Cox is a good story but he still can't play footy. He can take a mark or two a game and kick a goal or two but he doesn't know what to do for most of the other 118 odd minutes of the game. White will always let us down when it matters. Witts just isn't a forward.

well you'd have to expect all out war if you took robinson on. He's used to having the power of dealing with people who are worried about how he can affect public perceptions of AFL. The trick is, if he is hounded by people who really don't give a stuff about media image then his power evaporates. I'd love to do it. Of course you'd need a blog or something that has a bit of power in the Melbourne scene.

I saw another example - Cameron Moody was asked about whether Cloke was on the outer. He talked about Cloke coming back last week and then being dropped and made a vague reference to forwards being injured ....about Witts coming back. But he really didn't know the facts about the injuries to the forwards and why the club might have to pick Cloke. He then proceeded to pronounce that Cloke wouldn't be there next year. It was the type of vague opinion about footy that I would expect from my mother....based on a few words in the paper ...or a 10 second spot on the tv news.

Here's another example of the mindless media crap. I flicked to sports radio in perth and they were evidently conducting their mid year review. It sounded more like a few mates gathered at a bar talking crap about footy. before I turned it off, they were lamenting about how hard it was to pick a winner this year, how they kept changing their minds about the team who would win the premiership..... the usual stuff. But they were most definite about Cloke leaving.....because they just "felt" it. They didn't have to tell me that they were feeling it.

That went as well for The Hound as Clokey's 2016 season
