Even if it is washed out today, surely there is enough time to force a result either way? Rain won't save us.

Australia will be lucky to squeeze another 130 runs from here. England will either chase the total down with ease or get skittled for not very many.
Just as likely to be a tense finish with either Australia bowling them out within 15 runs of victory or England getting over the line 8 down. If this series is any guide, there are always twists and turns

Day 5 is meant to be just as bad.

Let's hope its the latter. Watching all their toddler tantrum faces over the following two tests, knowing that nothing they do is going to get them the Ashes back, will be highly enjoyable.

Used to see Boonie at the bank where he worked here in Launceston back in the day when not playing
True story, he came to a sportsman’s night at my local cricket club. He turned up and I was in a Blues jacket and he said “Right your at this table with me, we’ll have a fair few and you get 1st question “ I didn’t know he supported Carlton but it was going beautifully until I asked him to confirm the 52 beers, he said mate I’ve had enough of talking about that shit and asked for another question. I grabbed his and my beer and sat at another table. Sad way for it to end.

Another fun fact...whilst we're waiting... I heard on the radio sometime during the first test, that Aus had held the Ashes for 88 years, and the Whiners for 55 years all up. Now, currently their population is 2.5 times ours, give or take a few thousand, and we still kick their cat-face bum, tightly- squeezed arses. Over the early decades of nearly 140 years of Ashes contests, that population differential would have been even greater. So this shows just how dominant we have been. With the report into English cricket that has just been released, it may help explain some of that away. (As well as them being generally sh*t at sport). Here in Australia, cricket is our true national sport, and is very much an egalitarian game, to be played anytime, anywhere. Plus we generally are very good at sport.
To be fair, the Poms youth was butchered in 2 world wars (as was many of ours, I know, but not to the extent), and they went through some very tough times post WWII as well... And we had a bloke called Bradman leading the band for 20 years...

Potentially, many of those post-war immigrants are the parents/grandparents of many of our cricketers over the years. I think also, that cricket is not number one in England. Their public schools tend not to have cricket grounds, and it does seem to be a game for the elite.

Sport in general in government schools started to struggle more when schools sold off their land to raise money. John Major says it was a massive regret of his (as a cricket nut).

I played cricket at school in Northern Ireland but even here there's a divide in that grammar schools play rugby union/field hockey in winter and cricket in summer whereas secondary schools play soccer. Both schools are free btw.

I'm really not sure who the target market for that book would be.

Ok she was an athlete in her own right but in a low profile sport so that is not going to pique many people's interest.

She is hardly going to go in depth about any of the salacious stuff that people would actually be interested in.

So, who the hell buys / reads it?
I'd never read it, but anyone that punches Roxy Jacenko is a-ok to me

It was Maggie Thatcher, surprise, surprise that started selling off the playing fields.

I'm guessing things were a bit dire then, but it seems a bit short sighted to sell off the space, sad really.
