It depends on what they were told.

If it was put to them clearly that they have to get this done or they won't be conisdered for the next Test, then it's their own friggin faults for being so dumb.....

You have to laugh, writing essays sounds like something John Buchanan would've done but I couldn't imagine him suspending players like Warne, McGrath or Waugh if they didn't do it.

What if the majority of players didn't do it? Would they have forfeited the test because they didn't have a team? I doubt it.

Ridiculous or not, as vice captain Watson should have had this done no issue, same as Khawaja and Johnson who were both fighting for a position in the side so it does reflect poorly on them.
Patto it's disappointing but at least he won't get injured in a match we will lose in.

If it was as Coverdale has tweeted not that much of an issue and a text would have sufficed then the penalty seems at odds with the crime.

Look, I don't disagree with you to a degree but essay writing is hardly our issue at this time. Get the four in a room, tell them they are tools and put a bit of paper in front of them and say 15 minutes write me something and do an extra lap of the oval.

In no order of importance I rank these 4 things;

1. Batting

2. Bowling

3. Fielding

4. Competent wicket keeping

They can get a bored journalist to ghost write their Indian Summer Diaries. They don't need writing lessons.

Seriously, if all they had to do was SMS Mickey Arthur a text message something along the lines off..

You're a useless prick, you know sweet **** all about the game, would you please STFU and GTFO

Would have sufficed.

If Mickey Mouse isn't insta-fired the second India win then Cricket Australia will lose my support.

Guys, I have some reliable inside information. See a similar article reported nationally tomorrow.

Johnson, Khawaja speak out about Axing
Two members who were dropped for the 3rd test in Mohali - for failing to follow team orders - have finally spoken out after the surprising axing.

"I was initially surprised at my axing." Johnson said. "I could not nominate anything that I had done wrong without playing a game. In the end I said that I had made the cordial too strong during the drinks break, but even that didn't pass the criteria needed" Khawaja was in a similar mood, suggesting that sweated-through glove liners could have been the reason. "I texted Mickey about the fact that I had failed leave Pup's glove liners in the sun during the tea break, but he said that wasn't a good enough reason.'

Recent media reports have also shown what Phil Hughes emailed to Mickey Arthur about what he could do to improve his performance, which included "continues [sic] to play with hard hands to the spinners" as well as "keep on playing the sweep shot to Ashwin, it a good [sic] shot to play to him"

Todd made them write an essay after a heavy defeat .. that went down well as you can imagine.

Except all these guys had to do was send in a text message. And they had 6 days to do it. And all they had to say was the stuff they've all said plenty of times in press conferences. And one of these guys is the vice captain who barely deserves a place in the team.

When you're getting flogged, though, it's so easy for off-field discipline and professionalism to fall by the wayside. Remember Jimmy Anderson admitting he and his team went out on the piss all the time during their 2006-7 Ashes flogging, which of course only made them play even worse.....

I agree the punishment is severe but I kinda sorta understand the message that is being sent.
