Too easy for me, most will disagree, but Hansen and Gibson out, mullett and garner in.

We know what Gibson and Hansen are going to give us, shit skills and terrible decisions. Time to find other players on the list who can perform to a higher standard.

Do you think the LT is getting no love from the umpires these days?? I think he is getting hard done by them......trying not to be biased
in my opinion. The umps know he is clever with his bags of tricks and use recent rule changes as an excuse to say "play on". Facts remain the same that LT is not endowed with height and at times he gets natural contact to the head without LT lowering his torso.

So you want to go back to gifting young players games ?

Because right at this point, Gibson is ahead of the 4 players you mentioned.

So we are going to drop a player who, for sheer hard work, commitment and leadership, is best 22, for a young player who has pace and has the skills or can lay a tackle, but needs a season in the seniors to see "if the penny drops" and they develop.

To make top 4, you need to play your best in form team every week.

Let the younger players dominate in the VFL (if they can), before giving them a senior call up.

BMac dominated VFL last season and hardly got a look in.
Anderson dominated VFL last season but couldn't break into a strong Hawks lineup.
Mullett has proved at AFL that he can make it, just needs a chance.
Garner has also proven he is AFL standard. He played 13 games last season.
Dumont dominated VFL last season, didn't get much of a chance.
Do I need to go on?

All these blokes are much more talented than Gibson, they just need game time.

Sam Gibson's performances in the finals last year was very very good. A lot of posters still talk about how good Garner was in last year's EF vs Richmond. And yes, he was very good.

But do you remember Sam Gibson's defensive job on Ellis ? He mauled him. And the week after that, he killed L Jetta vs Sydney.

Point is, you might question his skills. But you are forgetting the other things Sam Gibson brings to the team.....gut running, commitment and leadership.

You drop Gibson and these are the qualities you are giving up.

McKenzie showed a bit in the round 23 game last year but is barely above a cat at AFL level.

Urqhardt had a great run down tackle prior to (small)heading off to the US to be a punter is a 15th string team.

BMac may have a future, he may not, but he ain't getting a game ahead of gibson in round 1.

Its a fair argument you give but there are question marks on the 2 players you mention........ I think many here speculate what Gibson offers to the club, similar to what Swallow offers the club and say Hansen as well. They do what they do well but other than that thats it......theres no plan B. Look at Harvey for example.....played a a forward pocket , then we needed his smarts in the middle/on ball....but even now he has been spotted down the back at times off the flank as a release player with his great foot skills and speed. I prefer to have a side that has players that could be swung elsewhere if the teams plan A has gone to schit.

Garner looks good, hard nut, but im undecided that his lack of speed and class for an outside overrides that at the moment. His ability to rotate through the midfield will be valuable this season, so long as his tank can handle it.

I wish that they would stop playing mason as a 3rd tall, and play him as a medium/small with midfield rotation, his tank makes that possible.

Dumont had some good games but was hardly dominant.

Nah, disagree. Dumont was excellent in the VFL last year despite getting tagged on a number of Occasions. He and Rippon pretty much controlled Nth Ballarat's midfield. He only played 9 VFL games but his stats were consistent and solid:

-25 disposals 7 tackles
-22 disposals 8 marks, 5 tackles
-22 disposals 3 marks, 2 tackles

Had a run of 6 games in the seniors mostly as the sub.

-17 disposals, 7 tackles
-20 disposals, 3 clearances, 4 tackles
-26 disposals, 2 goals
-28 disposals, 7 clearances, 7 tackles
-36 disposals, 8 tackles
-24 disposals, 9 clearances

He deserved a lot more game time than he got in his few senior apprences last year.

Garner is a Brad Scott fav (deservedly so), I can't see him not playing.

This rubbish about he doesn't get enough of it. If ever player had it at least 25 times, we would then complain that we **** around with the ball too much. You just can't win.

He terrifies the opponent, and will pull it together come regular season, and even moreso finals as he and Turner have proved!

With the interchange cap you have to have a bit more flexibility in your game. At this stage garner can't run through the midfield or go back. If he is getting sub 12-13 touches a game it's hurting other people in the side IMO.

It's especially bad if we play two lockdown players in Jacobs and Gibson. Having 3 players dedicated to being defensive players really hurts.

I love garner but if he is going to play as a forward 100% then he needs to kick more goals. You can't get buy as a half forward these days by just getting 5-6 tackles a game (as much as I love his tackles)

Like how a hard running midfielder Gibson altered his game in the finals last year to turn into a defensive mid and shutdown Ellis and Jetta in 2 finals ?

Did I mention he also kicked 3 goals in last year's final series playing as a defensive mid...

I think Gibbo has shown he is a very adaptable player who can play a variety of roles.

Jetta was injured. Ellis was playing outside to a team that was slaughtered in contested ball and clearances.

Gut running was important 4 years ago when we had a team of young mids who were poor athletes, nowadays we are fine, we picked up Dal and Higgo for leadership and his commitment is rubbish, not a team player, just a dumb user of the ball who basically gets in the way.

Garner is locked and loaded and not going anywhere. Which is good because I love him.

2 very good games in the above I stand by my statement that he was not a dominant player in the VFL last year. I like Froggy and think he will play this year, but let's not over inflate VFL performances

Those are the most consistent VFL numbers we've had from any draftee in the past 6-7 years. Cunners, ziebell, Basti, atley none of those blokes when they played VFL consistently got numbers like that. 22-24 posession games in the VFL are a lot better than what you regard them as because there is less time in VFL games too.

Don't deflate the fact that he was playing in an average side with a dogs mess of a midfield either. Getting tagged may I add. Each to their own I guess but that's my justification Philly!

I rate Dumont and think he would benefit us playing in the midfield allowing ziebell to play forward more. He has a better tank and better spread than Jack.

Any idea where Garners tank is at? Spending two years on the sidelines couldn't be good for a players engine.

I don't see Garner as ever being a high possession player but I do see that he is an impact player, with bursts of 5-10 minuets where he can turn a game. Different to Cyril & Ballentine but I see him bring that sort of impact player for us. Anything extra, shit even that would be a bonus.

I was slightly sceptical of his knock on to himself & boomer against Richmond being deliberate. However he did a couple of things on the weekend very similar.

We need him playing IMO
