Do you think we will win the flag this year or even make top 4? I don't. That means I'd rather try kids that might improve us so we can get to that point in the coming years. Sure that means you might finish a little lower but that is the price you pay. I don't want to just make up numbers, I want to win a flag. Obviously you can't play all of them at once because that may destroy them psychologically.
So we can gift them games at the end of the season when we're out of it.

We wont be winning the flag in 2017 mate - If we are not looking to fast track kids like
Chol,Moore,Butler,Soldo,Castagna,Shai,Markov & Menadue
Griff,Hampson,Edwards,Hunt,Houli,Grigg are certainly not the answer
Agree with playing Markov and Menadue. The rest aren't ready. There's fast tracking and then there's stupidity. I would worry for Bolton's safety if he played round one.

The problem with that is that senior players have put the cue in the rack by then too and the heat is off the game. They may as well play in a successful VFL team at that point. They need to feel the heat of senior football with the best players giving it all.

I don't think players like Caddy, Vlastuin and Edwards really need to be scrutinised in these games. They've got the runs on the board and they're senior players. They have nothing to prove and were probably coasting.

Castagna was clearly better than Butler. He laid four tackles, won three free kicks and could've easily had three goals if he kicked straight. Rioli was quiet but lifted big time in that last quarter. Had moments of brilliance. I cannot say the same about Butler. A level above IMO.
fully agree, if butler was playing for a spot in the team, undoubtedly he failed imho,,,at a guess was involved in 2 scoring chains,,,nowhere near enough. his output needed to be 50% + on what he did today for a pass

Clutching at straws now.

Thought he was invincible today. Gave away silly free kicks (three if I recall correctly) and barely got his hands on it. Exactly why I don't think he should play round one. A total liability and we'll be carrying him even more when the real stuff starts. Was fortunate to get on the end of some Chol magic in the last quarter to save himself from embarrassment. Was Josh Smith his direct opponent? 29 touches he ended up with.

(said with Spanish accent. (For The princess Bride fans)........I do not think it means what you think it means?..........:p

we dont desperately need another small player in the side, we need more marking talls, chol went a step toward a spot for mine, am spewin that soldo didnt have more exposed form, liked what i saw from the big fella

Do they? And how the hell are they going to know who is giving their all or not? Just because we haven't made the eight doesn't mean games stop meaning something. Did you see the celebrations after we beat Collingwood last season? Do you not recall the scenes in the change rooms after the match? Even if it it's blatantly obvious (which it won't be), you could also argue that it eases their transition into AFL because a lot of the pressure will be off.

Look at Melbourne and St Kilda this year. They are building towards something. Both have endured pain but have played youth at every opportunity. They may not win a flag but they have given themselves a chance to at least have a chance. Good senior players keep their positions but senior players that have let them down time and time again have been moved on. We should be doing the same.

I agree that what they've done is the right way to go about it, but the problem is we haven't been patient enough to go down the rebuild path. Their kids are also a million times better than ours and were probably better than the senior players the day they walked into the club. We don't have the luxury of throwing in a number two draft pick like Petracca for someone like Shaun Grigg. We are working with Dan Butlers, Jason Castagnas, Ivan Soldos and Mabior Chols.

Yes, but we have Cotchin, Martin, Jack and Rance as well as Prestia and now Caddy to help our youngsters. Melbourne didn't have that luxury.

LOL Rioli took one decent mark in the last quarter and kicked a relatively easy goal. Hardly moments of brilliance.
