So any news on how this ended up? Even if he didn’t get hit in the head, it was a bizarre one to pick out. Why is staging in a tackle worse than the 10 times a game others stage in a push & shove?

In our game alone there were 2 instances of clear chest contact (and light contact at that) made to Crows players who flung their heads back. No fines.

Feels like the AFL has quietly swept it away & all the ‘big mouth’ media types have quietly gone with it. Nothing I can find on the result.

As much as I disagree with this as an example, apparently it was cited due to the potential for a report to arise, rather than the usual free kick (ie for a flop)

I think they picked this one out as they see it (staging) as working against fixing concussion - in the sense that it obfuscates an immediate understanding from the umpire of what just happened in the play.
Problem is, this one was a very violent action where it happens super quick and there is a sudden impact against the turf (but technically not to the head), and as silly as it sounds, there are times where your brain acknowledges something bad just happened, but not quick enough to process what actually happened.

Similarly, Nik cox was concussed last year with zero head contact, and it was a result of his brain being shaken around in his head violently once his inertia is ceased.
However you cut it or dice it, this call by the AFL is dumb.

With Caldwell now missing for a few games he gets to play in the middle for a bit longer.

I suspect the AFL pulled the plug on it because it was extremely close to a dangerous tackle with the slinging type action they want out of the game and the contact with the ground was still very solid. It was a dumb call from the MRO.

Head doesn't have to hit the ground to feel a bit of whiplash at the top of the neck. It was a very poor decision and should be thrown out.
No, no, no, all those car accident whiplash and concussion injuries from sudden stopping while wearing a seatbelt are just staging because the head hasn't impacted anything. It's science.

Out of interest, are Essendon the highest fined club for staging?

Oh and, **** Christian.

Him and Menzie are the difference
These are the type of guys we need to step up and be consistent in their roles if we're going anywhere. Make it their objective to force someone to take their spot.

They've both been very good the last 2 games, first half tonight from both especially

midfielder plays well when played in the midfield isn't ground breaking.. really happy that he is backing it up week in week out now (past two anyway)
Also, not that groundbreaking that the coach of a side that has a history of being a bit soft in recent years is prepared to pick a bloke that his 100% hard at the contest in another position even if it exposes the flaws in his game more than his natural position

Played a good game, looks to be building. Gotta say though plays like a guy who matured early and was able to shrug off all the smaller kids as a junior. Tries to break through every tackle and rarely takes the first option. He'll need to get bigger and stronger if he's gonna continue playing that way because he's just not able to do that at AFL level with his size.

Weird that he is a good kick for goal but pretty average field kick.
Speaking from being a reasonable set shot compared to a horrific field kick when I was playing, much larger target

It's nice seeing the positive some bring to a position outweigh the negative they have.

Enjoying the influence he is having on games
