8 grand finals from last 23 years

Since 1931, Geelong has only had three instances of 11 seasons between drinks in making a Preliminary Final, they are 1939-1949, 1969-1979 and 1996-2006.

Might want to make that 2 considering we made it to a prelim in 04

Everyone talks about this teams era being the last 5 years but if you go back to 2004 our results are even better

2004 - Prelim
2005 - 3 seconds from prelim
2006 - Don't think there was an 06 season
2007 - Flag
2008 - F*ck
2009 - Flag
2010 - Prelim
2011- Flag???

2006: Geelong had a match/win percentage of 37.50% against the eventual finalists.

2011: Essendon 37.50%, West Coast 36.36%, St Kilda 18.18% M/W% against the other finalists.

The Hawks did 7 from 7 between 1983 and 89' not to mention there 91 premiership....fair effort that!

Same as Melbourne from 1954-1960. Except Melbourne won 5 from 7 (5 from 6 actually at one point), Hawthorn won 4 from 7.

Melbourne continued on to win another flag in 1964, making it a mere 6 premierships in 10 years. Collingwood from 1927-1936 are the only other side to do this.

the competition was nowhere near as competitive during the early noughties as what it has been in our era. There was always only the one team to beat which was the Lions.

This is such rubbish. That the Lions didn't finish on top of the ladder in any of their three premiership seasons speaks to the competitiveness of the competition in those years. Port Adelaide, Collingwood, Essendon, Adelaide and towards the end Sydney, St Kilda and us were all highly competitive sides from 2000-2005.

You could very easily argue that the least competitive season in recent memory was 2007, when we were absolutely head and shoulders above everyone else.

Making 11 Preliminary finals in 23 seasons (1989-2011) is pretty good, your side making the top-4 every second season.

I started following the Cats in about 1976/77 so have seen 13 Preliminary Finals, of which five have been against the Pies.

Since 1931, Geelong has only had two instances of 11 seasons between drinks in making a Preliminary Final, they are 1939-1949 and 1969-1979.

To be honest, if Geelong win a 3rd flag in this era i'd just about be fully satisfied as a fan, seeing this era is something most footy fans would rarely enjoy, and to be honest i thought i'd never see one like this. And i reckon it's far from over too with the youngsters coming through.

We've won 8 Preliminaries in 23 seasons, the Dogs have gone lost 8 preliminaries in 9 attempts since 1925.

Premilinary final appearances are a good indicator of a teams success although perhaps more so when the finals structure was changed to what it is now in I think 2004.

By whatever measure its been a glorious era for the club hopefully made even more so after Saturday:thumbsu:
