James Rowbottom

The Sydney Swans recruited James Rowbottom with their second selection at the 2018 AFL Draft and the midfield bull impacted from the get-go. The Oakleigh Chargers product made his AFL debut against Richmond at Marvel Stadium in Round 5, 2019 and finished the season with 12 senior games beside his name. Rowbottom also led the NEAFL MVP voting when it was hidden from the public after Round 12. The young Swan is a ball magnet, explosive at the stoppages, an outstanding tackler and a clean user of the footy.

James Rowbottom
DOB: 19 September 2000
DEBUT: 2019
DRAFT: #25, 2018 National Draft

What's his role ?

CBA outside of Grundy as the ruck in order

16- 3rd most
17 - 1st
22- 1st
11- 4th
9- 4th
15- 4th
14- 5th
21- 3rd
9- 6th
7- 5th
5- 6th

Maybe means nothing but gradually dropping out of the cba, and they aren't as spread lately , it's become Jmac Heeney Warner with Jordon if he tags. Then Gus even Papley.

I like his tackling and his ability to hold up the play but sometimes he seems to be drifting around and not being used where he should? Seems liked Gulden went down and the change was Jmacs role growing but Rowbottoms dwindling at the same time ?

Had to Bump this thread with all the chat going on about him not being good enough, I reckon that was his most efficient game in the last 4-5 seasons.

80% DE

15 touches

7 tackles

8 contested possessions

8 score involvements

3 tackles inside 50

3 goal assists

I thought he was a non factor for the first half and played out of position .

His CBA went up in the second half a fair way I think and looked better

Had a really good first and third quarter, felt like he found a spot about 60 out from goal in the linkup play

I wonder if he could even be mid and push back rather than forward .

I think he brings a presence to the centre bounces

Watched a replay of the game yesterday. Can't believe the knock on Rowbottom by some on here. Pressure and one percenters that he applies helping team mates, especially in close, is outstanding. Could easily had 3 goals as well.

His chasing of the ball carrier is what you don't see many do , just his disposal at times is yuk
