Was watching the game over the weekend and had a look at the stats after and it seems to me that we continually get shafted by the umpires (when it comes to us getting free kicks). So I decided to jump on footy wire and have a look and surprise surprise we are dead last at getting free kicks paid to us.

Now looking at the list there is nothing that comes to mind really besides the eagles (who do get a very good run at home). I've noticed a number of times our forwards in particular get held onto and blocked when going up for marking contests but we hardly ever get a free. I can hardly remember when one of our forwards actually got a free kick to be honest.

Just wanted to see other people's thoughts about this considering there is no game and we need to blame someone other than the coach and club :D:p

It's infuriating what Bruce puts up with week in week out. He's working his arse off but teams seem to be free to infringe him constantly (blocking, arms chops, being held).

It was fantastic to see Skunk hurt a team who had put all their effort into stopping Brucey illegally.

I agree, also noticed it with Paddy is that when he is about to jump at the ball the 2nd defender comes in with a hip and shoulder thus putting him off balance or blocking him. Never gets paid.

I actually cant remember walking away from a game thinking geez we got the rub of the green in that game. Can remember 6 or so games this year were ive been pulling my hair out, and 2 of those were direct loses due to crucial calls late in games.

Last qtr...Rowe gets a free kick in a marking contest (a very slight push by Pierce)...2 minutes later, Bruce gets exactly the same treatment with no free kick...it's a joke the way he gets treated.

Maybe Richo or Finnis should stand up & question the all mighty umpire department.

Don Pyke didn't care, why should we?

We did definitely get some really soft frees in the Freo game I'm pretty sure. There was one game this year where we got looked after with some really soft free kicks. I'm pretty sure it was the Freo game.

It's WWE nowadays DarkSaint

Just ask GJD23
Although I don't understand why they'd do it, that's what I was told...like you look at the historical data over the past 20 years for frees paid and the Eagles only have lost the free kick differential over a season I think twice in 20 years or something ridiculous. It's no coincidence, some of these numbers jump out of the page at you and it's a reoccurring theme.

They want the big clubs to succeed.

Makes you wonder if we even have a long term future.

Corrupt league.

If I was in charge I'd want the struggling clubs to succeed, you see what it's done to Carlton. 48,000 at St.Kilda v Carlton in today's game is unheard of, the league obviously generate a lot more revenue when the good/big clubs are up and about. I don't know what the financials would look like if clubs like the Eagles and Hawks were struggling on field....Essendon fall into that big club category but they are an exception as the fans have rallied behind them under some challenging circumstances.

We need to make more noise about this. Because looking at those numbers we are not receiving them for some reason and i can honestly say we are not a dirty sniping side to give away silly ones that affect our numbers.

Yeah there are definitely some obvious trends...the way I see it is that the numbers cannot possibly be skewed so badly unless there is a process or reasoning behind it. If the umpires weren't favouring certain clubs then you may still see a bit of a gap between 1st and 18th, say, 25-50 odd frees, but to have the Eagles leading the count by 200+ just doesn't happen by chance.

Firstly I think that our tackling is not the smartest going around- room to improve there.

A couple of games that stood out to me, and probably most of us, where the opposition got quick and soft frees, were our games against the Hawks and WCE.

I saw a few clangers we missed out on against Carlton that really there was no excuse for the ump not to pay.

I think how tackling is very precise, also we don't have any head duckers and don't ever have home decisions

Lonie has been claimed to drop the knees at times.

Possibly our small crowds provide less influence to umpires. That could be a factor.

What ever the reason is, we need to get to the bottom of it, as can be seen through the season 1 or 2 paid or non paid free kicks can actually lose you the game.

Yes I agree. I hope there isn't any reticence from our administration as we are currently seeking assistance.

Perhaps could write to the umpiring department seeking clarification on how to redress the balance. From the point of view of them giving us advice.

What because were bottom of the chart?
Someone has to be bottom
Maybe were just not good enough inside were others win highs and backs free

We are bottom by a long way. We are a bottom four midfield, but not bottom by a long way.
