With the reluctance to chase older players and use picks for players me thinks MM and the football department are aiming for a dynasty of dominance in four to five years.
The reasons are-
1 Most of our GUNS are only 20 21 22 years old
2 The older guys like Shaw-gone Lockyer-on the wane,O'Bree not going to get better,Presti-almost gone, are no longer major influences on games just bit players.
3 Our best team simply is nowhere near Geelong and Hawthorn and wont be for 3 to 4 years.

With such good young players i beleive the heirachy at the pies think if we can have 1 or 2 good drafts talent wise once our players mature in to 25 to 29 yr olds that because they are our best players we could create a very powerful unit and have real success. Add a smattering of real good players from 2005 to this years draft all around the 22 to 23 age mark in 3 4 years time then that is our best chance of a flag.
There is obviously meticulous planning going on to assure the future sucess of the club so IMO we are actually in a major rebuild which has not been stated by the club but which i think is definatly happening for sure.

A dynasty of dominance is going a bit far. What they are doing is setting ourselves up to be a challenger for a number of years, giving us the best chance of snaring a premiership. If we were looking at creating a dynasty we needed to move more towards the carlton or hawthorn route, by finishing at the bottom multiple years in a row, and loading up on the most talented kids.

With GC and West Sydney coming in that model of rebuiding is no longer available to clubs, we are already a challenger as two prelims in two years shows.
But with all our real good players at the same age it means they all peak at once and if youve got good 2nd or 3rd year players to add to that then that wins flags and can create sustained success which i think can mirror a Lions like dynasty.
I might be aiming high in expectations but beleive the club should be too.

It's nice to dream. It won't happen though. Teams like Brisbane's and Geelong's simply don't come aorund that often, particularly in today's game with the restrictions of player movement. Even if you tank year after year, ala Carlton and earlier St Kilda, it won't mean you'll even get close to winning one flag, much less a couple.

It's not about building a dynasty it's about building the best possible list to get you 1 premiership. One thing that helps that is having a group of footballers in the peaks of their powers who have played together a lot.

The other thing people need to remember is our KPP in Rocca Wakes and Presti are on the way out and whilst we have promising kids to fill the roles they won't be dominate AFL standard over night it will take a couple of seasons. So signing a player who is possibly going to be fading as our bookends are ready is not really helping much.

It is about building a dynasty or else your gone before you started, as you and i said its about peaking at the right time and thats what the club has in mind IMO. If your not going for sustained success ala a dyansty then that is stupid for me.
And as i said Shaw Thing im talkin bout 4 to 5 years down the track not next year so if we can stay competitive and steal some glory with our list in the next 2 years so be it but i think the club has a vision and i reckon they are spot on.

I can see where your coming from but don't underestimate the value of obree he is one of our main extractors of the pill in stoppages. The pies will go long term with drafting kids. Pert said the morning of the crows final our next flag will come from a side that's built by the club. You do however need a sprinkle of older hardened players in the squad.

We are in a good position to to create a dynasty. It helps that about 12-14 of our best 22 are still going to be around for at least another 8 years, without them having peaked yet.

im happy just to win 1 premiership right about now and then think about a 2nd shortly after

Thomas, Pendlbury, Cloke, Rusling, -all very good young players and in our best 10 players for sure.
Anthony, Mcarthy Dawes Clarke Reid Brown-All shown enuogh to suggest that thaey will make it and be real good players.

There is Half a side for you who in 2 to 5 years will be peaking and all at the same time pretty much, exciting times ahead i reckon.

Young Guns then is that better? All i meant was our better players and potetial stars are all young, as being big headed can you name these young guys with big heads or are you just being your usual over dramatic self?

Since Brisbane West Coast, Geelong and now Hawthorn have all been talked about as being sides who can put a dynasty together. None of them have won a second flag at this stage.
