A hypothetical trade

I know I'm not generally very welcome here but a thread on another board made me wonder about a potential situation that could have arisen.

Let's go back to the trade period of 07. What if West Coast had've said to you "We will only give you Chris Judd if you give us Bryce Gibbs". How many of you would have made that trade. I know most clubs would never trade away promising young players and I know Gibbs is rated very highly by Carlton supporters.

So would you have been happy if you gave up Gibbs for Judd?

Don't mean to sound arrogant, but i'm sure most of us Carlton supporters will think you're taking the piss. If that's any indication - most replies you'll get will be a resounding 'NO'.

Gibbs is still yet to reach his full potential, and who knows he may yet be as good as Judd, if not better. Given that, it would be pointless, regardless of how good Judd is. Unless West Coast were offering all of their most promising youngsters along with Judd, we'd consider it.

If you presented that question to all clubs, i'm sure they wouldn't budge on the trade either... well, Freo might trade you Palmer and Pick 1 if given the chance.

Simply put - Gibbs is untouchable.

If the deal was for Cousins instead of Judd then i think we would have jumped at it ...after all he is the messiah who will win Richmond a premiership, and any player would can get that crap list a flag is worth his weight in gold .

I assure you I'm not taking the piss. I just thought I'd ask you guys since every Geelong supporter would say "no way would I trade selwood for Judd" and most Richmond supporters would say the same about Cotchin. By asking Carlton fans I can find out who they would take out of their promising youngster or Judd without any team bias involved.

An Interesting Hypothetical, but never would have eventuated as Gibbs would have to agree to the trade... and if Gibbs ever decided not to play for the Blues he would be playing for Adelaide or Port.

In answer to your question... if you weigh up what we gave away picks 3, 18 and Kennedy... I would think Gibbs and Judd is a fair swap.

1. We'd still have Kennedy
2. Pick 3 would of landed us a decent ready to play midfielder.
3. Pick 18 would of been handy.

So as much as I love Gibbs, in comparison it's fair.

Well put. You richmond guys are pissed because you havent achieved anything in over 20 years and got nothing for it, we were successful in the mid 90's then slumped all of us supporters gritted our teeth now we have a few of the biggest prospects kicking around in Kreuze,Gibbs an Murph not too mention the biggest trade in 10 years which we gained an early 20's brownlow medallist.

Carlton will always be successful because its supporters are die hard and stick through thick and thin. I'm confident that for a least 1 out of the next 5 grand final days im going to be wearing my Blues jumper out on the town and probley celebrating until decemeber that year.
