Too many lazy footballers wear red and black these days. The hawks ran us into the ground and played with an intensity and aggression that we have not had for 6 or 7 years.

Everytime the hawks turned the football over they ran just as hard to support their defence as they did when they run forward of the footy when a teammate has the pill. Out blokes refuse to find an oponent on the rebound and for some reason refuse to run with the ball and run to support when we are in possesion.

Our kick orientated gameplan is very easily counted by dropping numbers back. Until we start taking some risks teams will continue to block the space for Lloyd and lucas. Look how the hawks created space with hard running by drawing defenders to the ball carrier so they couldnt zone off in front of Franklin, Boyle etc.

Johnny Quinn(if he still has a job next year) needs to work them harder than he has before to see if these guys have the cahones to become half decent gut runners. Because until we find some more of them then we'll be just making up the numbers for awhile yet.

End of rant and back to my whiskey....

The Hawks fitness staff have done great things with their list. Even a guy like Jordan Lewis who is a bruising inside midfielder gut runs both ways these days. Its not only a fitness thing its an attitude thing and the hawks players wear their hard work and one percenters as a badge of honour. We need to find that kind of spark.

Yep Totally!!!

Mate the quicker you get rid of sheedy the better. Why the hell he continues to emphasis to play pretty football in shit conditions beats me. Chipping around short passing too many handballs and little kicks to lyodd or lucas just brings it all undone. Look at the Hawks long and direct in crap conditions and it turns into an even contest up forward putting the back line under extreme pressure.

PISS OFF SHEEDY GO PLAY WITH THE MARTIANS:thumbsdown:

I dont think fitness is our problem . I have witnessed first hand how much fitness wrok has been done and i can tell you this year we have increased the workload a good deal on previous years. The problem is we have too many lazy players and we go too tall thinking we can stretch the smaller running defence's. We then simply get out run by rebounding defenders who simply peel off Lloyd and Lucas and run away.Monfries letting his opponet run from the back pocket through the center squae and kick goals doesnt help things either. We only really have two players who can genuinly run all day in Peverill and Stanton. today we got screwed by having Rama and Monfries in our rotations to start with. Neither of them have a tank big enough. Playing MJ at half back was also going to cost us. The Hawks use their half forwards as extra midfielders and MJ hasnt been able to run all day in the midfield in his prime let alone now.
As soon as a saw the team on thursday i knew we where f***ed. another lesson not learned by the caoch.

Totally agree Marcuz. We were pathetic. Turnovers and lack of talent I can handle but for lack of effort there is no ****ing excuse and too often in the last few years we've served up shit like that.

Agree totally...

.. but it starts at the selection table and then gameplan.

If you get exposed in all three then you are in massive trouble hence the 10 goal drubbing.

I don't think we had a game plan today. It was embarassing.

Unfortunately they are the two worst offenders when it comes to turning the ball over.

Stanton in particular, his foot skills are shocking for a AFL footballer. Hasn't improved his kicking this year, if anything it has got worse. I would look to trade Stanton, for someone who can actually use the ball and hurt the opposition by foot.

And some people want Sheedy back like that. For too long we've been lazy, unskilled and too often ran off our feet.

With Lloyd and Lucas up one end and Fletcher and Michael the other we should easily be winning 60% of our games, but when we are slow, the ball shoots back too easily while our delivery stinks.

At least Pev and Stants get the ball.

Monfries has not just been ordinary this season - he has been terrible. Is too small, has no pace and no tricks to speak of. For some reason other clubs seem to think he has promise so we may even get something worthwhile for him.

First one to be traded in my opinion.

Stanton hasnt been the same since his injury. He'll come back as good as ever next season. Despite what Pev lacks in skills, he makes up for in work ethic and application. Top 3 for our B+F Id be tipping for Pev.

True. Pity they don't get rewarded for their efforts. Instead because of their poor foot skills, they turn the ball over often resulting in a score to the opposition.

In today's game you can not afford to consistently turn the ball over by foot, especially when you miss targets (stationary, moving, no pressure, pressure etc). Your going to get burnt on the rebound. It has killed us the last few years.

If you get the ball 25-30 times a game you are going to turn it over more than a bloke who only gets the ball 5 or 6 times a game.

Bloody hell, even guys like Kerr aren't perfect with their disposal.

Pev and Stants aren't the problem.

Then its down to a poor attitude, not enough players willing to push themselves. And that is not good enough when a team has the sniff of finals footy.

Our playing style can make the players lazy also, we refuse to run and provide movement and as a consequence we play static, kick dominated gamestyle.

Lloyd, Lucas, Fletcher and Michael does not guarantee 60% at all. Games today are predominantly won by midfielders and the ruckman who can ably feed them. This is 2007 not 2000.
2006- WC- Lynch as main forward-Best midfield in competition. Admittedly the other premiers in Sydney, Port and Brisbane had good forward lines but the premier midfields as well.
We have fallen behind the pacesetters in terms of our team structure. Too many talls who are poor when it hits the ground- Lloyd, Lucas, Johns and Michael. Ryder slightly better.
We have few players who are genuine hard runners- in fact Stanton is the only player who fits into this category. I think Slattery is close in this category but he plays a negating role so he doesnt often create offensive run.
I watched Hawthorn today and they have a band of players who are 190cm, can run and cover the ground. Not sure we have anyone in this category besides Mark Bolton and perhaps NLM.
Lastly our kicking is poor. Jay Nash is usually an A+ kick. But who else?
For those bemoaning the sacking of Sheeds I think today may have been a reality check. He HAS been a great coach. But it has been a ling time since we have looked this far off the pace in terms of innovation in the AFL.
Can I have a couple of Whiskeys Marcuz?

I don't care if they get the ball 50 times a game. If they are not going to hurt the opposition by foot, then they are meaningless.

Kerr has excellent foot skills either side, poor comparsion. Kerr is in a higher class then Pev and Stants, even without his foot skills.

Pev and Stants butcher the ball to many times. Have a look at Haw today, Hodge, Mitchell, Ladson, Bateman, Lewis, Crawford, Guerra and even Birchall use the ball well by foot when they get it.

Hard to disagree with any of that.

How does this guy still have a job? He was pumped up in 99-01 to be the leading fitness trainer in Oz and now a lot of our players arn't running or refuse to run

Jason Winderlich is the hardest running player in our side, I watched him against the Eagles when he came off for a rest, he was absolutely spent.
That footage should be shown to the side.
You should only come off for a rest because you are stuffed, if not you aren't trying hard enough to assist your teamates.

So its the fitness coach who should be sacked if the players refuse to run and help their team mates
