That was a fantastic read, Mr Eagle, and for that reason, that's why the then VFL adopted the "Away shorts/Knickerbockers Rule", to help spot the difference between Melbourne & Essendon, something that nearly all leagues have today.

Interesting article.
Also interesting to note is that none of the new VFL clubs wore a different uniform from that which they wore in the VFA in 1896.
