This is something I have never been able to understand and hopefully someone can explain it.

Why is it that when the receiver get the ball, especially in close, they nearly always turn and head back into the contest. Why isn't the option of moving the ball out of the contest taken?

Trying to understand.

I can only assume it's to draw tacklers so they can release players on the edge of the contest. Works if you can get it out cleanly.
