I think it might be time to have a think about which of our top of the ladder magpies will take out coveted positions in this years All Australian side.

For mine, the definite selections are Harry O on a half back flank, Swanny STARTING in the guts, Dids on a half forward flank

I reckon there is potential for Scotty Pendlebury off the bench.

Dale Thomas must be in the squad, and maybe even luke ball?

Might be too early to call this, but if DJ puts together another 5 weeks like his last 5, then he surely gets a look in at the 2nd ruck spot behind big Sandi.
Who is his competition? Jamar, Mumford, Hudson?
He's above all those on the last 5 weeks, and he'll be fresh in their minds if he keeps this up, and particularly if he makes mince out of Ottens and Blake in rnd 19.

Thoughts?

Re: Aa 2010

Swan, Didak, Thomas, Pendlebury and maybe Harry O would be in contention I think. Not saying all 5 would make it, but I think they'd be the ones that would be getting a good look at some season's end. I'd say Swan and Dids are locks, and Thomas, Pendlebury and Harry pushing for bench spots.

Great result regardless, just says so much about our spread of talent, we don't need 11 All Australians like Geelong to be contenders.

Re: Aa 2010

Swan and Didak would be near certainties at this stage.

Pendles and Thomas might make the squad of 40. Harry O has tapered off, still playing good footy but not All Australian level.

Re: Aa 2010

If we finish top, I'm sure they'll find a place for at least 3.

Swan & Didak will make it.

Thomas, Pendlebury, Harry & Jolly all strong chances to make the 40 man squad.

Big finish to the year for Jolly and he'll get the 2nd ruck in front of Mummy & Jamar, who has be excellent.

Re: Aa 2010

fair enough, so then out of curiosity, who takes harry's place?
for mine, enright has had a form dip bigger then harry's, malceski doesn't play on a bloke, gilbert is on the other flank.
gilbee's been up and down, hargrave's been rubbish, maxwell hasn't been playing, fisher hasn't played his old role, harry taylor now plays KPD, drummond hurt, etc.
he'll definitely be in the squad, and could feesably make the side IMO.

Re: Aa 2010

Probably Goddard or hodge...

Didak on the hff
swan centre
pendles intg
Thomas 40 man squad
jolly (sneaky chance)
no backs in with a chance

Re: Aa 2010

Swan and Didak are certainties.

Pendles will be in the squad for sure, possibly in the 22. Finishing top wouldn't hurt his chances.

I don't think Harry O will be there, wouldn't rule him out of the squad of 40. I think Heater is a better chance. Half back is a tough AA spot to crack though.

There will only be one ruck, and it won't be Jolly.

Re: Aa 2010

I too agree in regards to Swan and Didak being just about locks.

Personally I can't see Scotty P making the 22. Has had a reasonably good year but there is just to many other midfielders in front of him as far as I'm concerned.

Daisy may be half a chance on the wing as well. Been stoked with him this year.

Re: Aa 2010

Pendles is in my team. For me he has been our 2nd best player this year behind Swan and ahead of Didak.
Daisy should make the squad, but not the team. Perhaps the same fate for Harry O also.

Re: Aa 2010

Pendles will make it, especially if we finish top or win like 5 out of the last 6.

I think Jolly is making a late run as well, a few more weeks at this pace and he might force the hand of the selectors, the usually like putting a 2nd ruck in the FP so his goal tally will help in that regard.

Pendles, Swan and Heater are in my squad.

Didak could "sneak" in with if he keeps his great late season form up.

Swan is the only "cert" for the final 22 IMO.

Swan in the mid.

Didak HFF.

Thomas should come under serious considerations. Has been very influential throughout the season.

Harry O + Shaw have been good in patches. Could be a chance.

Pendlebury + Ball have been top 5 at the club this season but I think there are others who will get selected before them.

Darren Jolly, probably not good enough for the whole season, really would favour just Sandilands. But interesting seeing him listed. Wouldn't say I necessarily would disagree if he finishes the season off the way he has played over the last month.

Swan in on the bench, Didak HFF.

Pendles, Harry, Heater, possibly Jolly and unlikely but not totally crazy Ball could all be in the squad. Pendles a sneaky chance for the interchange.

I can't see Jolly squeezing out the big russian who has had a more consistant year. Heater had a pretty poor 5 week trot where he consistantly turned the ball over. That plus a week of with injury makes it hard. Harry has been very up and down.

I'd love to see Presti get into the side but Lake is a lock for FB.

Agree with all of this.

Although I think Swan will be named on the ground.

Swan - 100% - On ball
Didak - 85% - Half forward flank
Pendlebury - 50% - Interchange

Thomas and O'Brien will both probably make the squad of 40 but will miss out on the team.

Unfortunately for the team it will only be SWAN who will make it others like didak and harry may be in the squad of players in contention however, like leigh matthews said on 3AW is unusual for a team so high on the ladder to have possibly only one make it. Didak would have to have a few more super games to kick Betts and Milne out, Harry has had too many goals kicked on him started off well but has dropped off recently. Swan will not be on the bench going on his stats for clearances, tackles, inside 50's he will be in the side and in the correct position not like last year. He has by far been the most consistent this year again. Parkin, taylor and pickering all had him in the side and no other collingwood player a couple of weeks ago on foxtel league teams. The only one that didnt suprisingly was shaw who i think after comments he made this week about "Swan could find space in a phonebox" would probably have him in.

Swan and Didak in.

I'd love to see Thomas get in on the wing or bench.

Ball, Jolly, Harry, Pendles will make the squad, from there we will see.

A shame Presti missed those games, he deserved AA last year.

Swan and Didak are locks for mine. Can't see any HFF'er bar Chappy having a better year than Didak... Chappy has been playing predominatly in the midfield but will be named at the other HFF for sure.

Harry O is a big IF... If goddard and hodge don't get named on the HB line Harry O will take one of them. But most likely they will be.

SP will make interchange.

As everyone has said Swan and Dids are certainties and Pendlebury and Harry O are borderline with Thomas a sneaky
