I think your looking a little short term. Beams, Sidebottom, McCarthy, Pendles are all very inside and will be big parts of our future going foward. Swan is more then handy inside too. Going foward what is more absent is a complete finisher on the outside.

Didak has the skills but lacks the pace to break the lines.

Davis probably has both but is 29 and only just starting to play consistant midfield football.

Thomas has the pace but lacks the finishing skills.

I think he has improved his skills out of sight this year. His goal kicking routine improved alot and his short passes were really good also. Not really in the same ball park as Davey though.

They improved but not to the standard you would want from a top line outside mid. I think his goal kicking improved far more then field kicking. When his running you wouldn't be confident that he is going to hit a player on the chest or out in front. He tends to slow down and give the ball a fair bit of air time which means if it does get to its intended reciever the defender has a fair bit of the ball to look at.

Yeah agreed Shawthing, but where are we looking here?

Are we in our premiership window now and looking to fill a void to take us the next step, or do we wait a few more years till guys like Beams, Sidebottom and co are developed enough to withstand a full season and finals of footy.

If we are looking short term to have a crack at the cup in next 2-3 years i think our money/trades/draft picks can be better speant elsewhere then Davey.''Sidebottom surely would have the polish to become a more thyen handy outside player wouldnt he?

I just thing our main concern is getting the ball out of the clearances in the short term future because this is where strong bodied teams such as Hawks/Saints and cats smash us.

So have we got any idea who the Pies might be talking to with trade week closing in, we may be very quiet.

lets put it this way. Davey is a good option going forward, will replace tarks or leons position in the team. Going forward.

Pendes and beams and sidebottom playing inside will only get better.

i would personally rather davey than pick 14 and say a goldsack.

He wont be the difference between a premiership but will help us get there soon if we land him.

In some of the finals Thomas had some great short passes that were kicked flat and at fall pace that his teammates lace out. Has definitely improved.

One thing the Dees don't need are more tall backmen. They'd be more interested in someone like Dawes you'd think.

Mike Sheahan on the couch stated Davey had not accepted Melbourne's offer & that James McDonald has returned from Bali to try & convince him to stay.
Sounds like Pies meeting with him on Friday might have had desired effect.

Why cant people see this, i think the majority of people here are getting caught up in the hype of securing a 'big name' for the club and in that are forgetting the needs of the club.
But in this thread, you suggested that Tuck and Simmonds for Travis Cloke could be something to consider. I think that a midfielder such as Davey, and a forward such as Fevola would be ideal for Collingwood's needs.

I agree Tuck and Simmonds for Travis Cloke I don't think so and have the pies spoke to Davey because all the speculation seems to indicate the Bombers leading the chase. Is Luke Ball the type of player to do a similar job as O'bree?

Spot on. Although i'd have trepidations about having such a w***er like Fev in the team. It's a catch 22 between balancing character and having a crack at a premiership. Doubt we could lure both over though.

That or the fact that he has now had a second meeting with Essendon?

Still favored to re-sign with the Demons though.

Ha Ha Ha LMAO...........Signed has he, WOW who'd have thought.

Thank god as now we can put this thread to bed!

Best outcome for us IMO in terms of being realists.

Now how do we secure pick 5 to get butcher, manage a trade to get Fev & Lake & Kerr & Lovett & Ball, and keep all our young KPP and include Cox/Toovey/Bryan/Stanley in all these deals.

Good luck guys!

Me, i'm happy to get Ball or Tuck, Drum and an established Ruck. But hey i may be setting my sights to low.
