He hasnt even made it to power yet, and he's already throwing out election promises.

What next, an ETS to get the greens on side ?

Weathervane. A desperate weathervane.

Morgoth ?

Question is. would he even know if the policy was changed or not ?

q whats the difference between a car salesman and a computer salesman ?

a. the Car salesman knows when hes lying

Surely not. It's a disgraceful waste of money and wireless technology is just as sound ... for a fraction of the cost. He's going to spend 5 times the amount as before, even though he doesn't agree with it, in order to be called PM? Perish the thought.

Wonder how many coalition voters voted for them because they bought into this shameless waste of taxpayer dollars?

I've got a feeling that Abbott will go for Fibre to the Node....

it'll probably cost about 1/3 - 1/2 of the current NBN (but end up costing more with alot more waste when we have to upgrade to Fibre to the Home in ten years)

so he can at least save face by not doing a total backflip while at the same time potraying himself as a better economic manager than Labor.

Of course something will still have to be done about Telstra because they own the last mile copper to the customer >,>

Wireless isn't the answer and neither is leaving it up to the market when, 1. Telstra still has a monopoly and 2. keeping the status quo isn't good enough.

Abbotts plan is basically pouring $6b down the drain for what we have arleady and then we will be even further behind.

So what happens to the budget surplus & paying back the debt ?

Or would he make further cuts to education, health etc ?

Or maybe he will tell the billionaires mining club ponce's to take a running jump ?

A great big fat new tax is on the cards for all the lovely trumpet blowers of the Liberal brigade ;)

Any clues Morgoth ?

Link? Nothing on the news services.

Pffttt go read up, wireless is about to go at + 100mbps.

"we have done a review of the NBN organization and found that it would cost too much to close it down - plus then spend the $6bn on our policy."

"we will make cutbacks or delay some of the upgrade to make some further savings"

"Have you seen this fast broadband its really the way of the future you know"

Wireless may be very useful and yes speeds are increasing but it can never form the backbone that is needed to keep our communication network standing.

It is basic physics. To send data over wireless connection at the same capacity as a fibre connection would take an enormous amount of energy. Energy that at radio (wireless) frequencies is pretty close to microwave bands. So imagine beaming all that energy around the place will soon clog up the spectrum, not to mention the heat radiation of everything that absorbs the wireless signal.

Fibre is expensive, but scalable and future proof. Wireless is a technoloogy that goes though updates every few years, leaving behind it incompatible, insecure and obsolete devices. And we can't sustain the mythological 1Gbps wireless speed because we'd all be fried from the energy required to sustain it. As mentioned, wireless requires lots of broadcast towers, that are also not scalable or sustainable in the long run. A fibre run can be left in the ground (dark fibre) until it is needed. If we require a doubling of the capacity, then add a dark fibre bundle. And the switch technology can be upgraded without having to pull out all the fibre.

If Abbott folds and gives in to the NBN ... shocking decision. It's a waste of money for something that can be done, similarly, for much less and much less risk.

Will Gillard still build her Regional Processing Center?
Will Gillard modify the MRRT?

Best assessment I've read.

There's nothing in that article supporting the OP.

Gillard's got an open mind to discussion's with the Indies within her broad policy parameters too.

No, but you can join the dots and see that the LIBS conflicting messages on their policy signals the start of a potential back-flip. The Independents liked the NBN, and have stated it is an issue for them. I am sure Abbott will not let a bit of hypocrisy on policy get the way of his push for the Lodge.

It would be very hard for Abbott to backflip on the NBN, since the coalition's entire budget is predicated upon scrapping it.

Yep if he does back flip on the NBN it shows once and for all that he is just another power hungry Pollie with no ethics and the public will see right through him.
BTW until the last postal vote is counted( the deadline is friday week) the real result wont be known so a lot of fools should settle down for at least a week to 10 days

Remote as it might be the ALP could get the 76 seats they need without the Inds Actually they only need 75 as the Green will vote with Labor 100%%

I think if the NBN is the Indies number one priority they should offer confidence to Gillard. Wouldn't be a bad outcome overall.

If they just want wireless upgrades in the sticks prioritised then Abbott's their man.

So could parties go chasing postal votes ?

Why not? That would be clever politics
