Murray,
You missed the point. This only made the newspaper becuase of the name Gary Ablett. If it was you or me, it would not have been in the paper. :thumbsu:
Absolute crap.
I read about similar events almost on a daily basis

Yeah Ablett has made a few mistakes but try telling my nephew who Ablett visited every 2nd thurs nite during the early 90's whilst he was in a wheelchair that ablett was scum, yes the great man had made mistakes but he has done alot of good in the community that has gone unwarranted

This is what you said.

I don't believe it would have if it was you or me, depending on the severity, but you said it only made the paper because it was Ablett. This is true but he is not the only person this applies to. As I said in the earlier post it has been reported on with other players, even low profile ones.

Have i wondered into Bay13?

Fair dinkum, a bloke gets physically assaulted and he somehow deserves it because he was involved with a young woman who died???

WTF is this? Ablett was never charged with anything, so why does he deserved to be assaulted?

If you knew the full story of the incident, you wouldn't judged Ablett as harshly. And I have no vested interest in Ablett or Geelong at all.

All football clubs have had fools and lowlifes in them at one time or another. No club is immune.

Ablett is no role model, but he doesn't deserve the vitriol and hate poured toward him on this thread.

There you go, you just answered the question. :thumbsu:

Why? Doesn't everyone shop for cars at 11.30 at night in the dead of winter and then some bloke jumps out and attackes you with a belt?

Thought it happened all the time.

Pretty unusual to say the least. Shouldn't condem him of doing anything wrong at that time as it's probably easier for him to window shop at that time than getting mobbed by people wherever he goes.

I imagine wherever he goes people stop him and want to talk to him so it's not entirely unreasonable to believe the official line... but it makes ya think???

It does if you are a famous sports hero.

Can you imagine the salesmen knocking themselves out to get to Ablett First if he went there in the middle of the day?

If you stop and think about who was shopping it actually makes a lot of sense.

No one deserves to be bashed.

Equally not everyone is deserving of sympathy. Ablett is and always has been pathetic off the field.

I show him as much sympathy as he showed when he stepped over the girl.

Frank Costa said on the 1pm SEN news that Ablett had been to the doctors and had visited the car yard of Rex Gorrel who I beieve is attached to the club. There was no mention of a cafe. And he was the one that mentioned the belt. It sounds like Frankie may have changed his story.

I was being a bit ironic, but I suppose with all the vitriol and hate spewed toward Ablett on this thread i can see how it would be taken the wrong way.

You have a valid point. Not a crime to look at a car yard at night.

It is a crime to assualt someone doing so though.

The Horan incident should not even be mentioned in this thread.

Man says Ablett began brawl
From: AAP

June 27, 2006

A VICTORIAN man accused of bashing former AFL star Gary Ablett has been denied bail

Vyasa Ofthsea, 31, of West Fyans Street, Newtown, appeared in Geelong Magistrates' Court today facing four charges over an alleged fracas with Mr Ablett last night.
The court was told Mr Ofthsea attacked Mr Ablett as the former AFL star was looking in a car yard in the Victorian city of South Geelong about 11.15pm (AEST) yesterday.

Mr Ablett suffered injuries to his wrist, foot and head, and a catheter draining fluid from his chest was ripped out, Detective Sergeant Rob Sodonaco told the court.

In a fiery record of interview played to the court, a seemingly aggressive Mr Ofthsea said he was the victim and had been attacked by Mr Ablett.

The court also was told the defendant's family had been involved in a dispute with Mr Ablett's daughter, Natasha.

Mr Ofthsea has been charged with attempted robbery, assault with intent to rob, intentionally causing injury and assault with a weapon.
Magistrate Max Beck denied Mr Ofthsea bail saying he was an unacceptable risk to the community.

Mr Ofthsea was remanded to reappear in court on July 11.

So this bloke was known to Ablett. Interesting.
I wonder how he found Gary at the car yard late at night?

I'm glad the thug is getting a fortnight in a cell at the very least.

Well done to the Mods for doing their job :thumbsu:
I have every right to state that i have no sympathy for Ablett getting bashed.
that is my opinion and i stand by it .
If other posters don't like it then tough luck.
I can understand where the Geelong posters vitriol is coming from ..after all the man is a god to them and most consider him a hero ..but MEH to me he is a low life .

FWIW, I don't think Blues Man ever said Ablett deserved to get bashed. Just that he found it hard to sympathize with him.

No-one deserves that, not even scumbags like Ablett.

look at his first post, i think youll find he suggested ablett had it coming.

as a Great Man once said 'let he who is without sin cast the first stone'

by the way blues man, you better throw out 3 quarts of your CD collection. those rock stars, they are bigger low lifes than ablett will ever be. and plenty of them have had groupies OD in their presence.

Pay more attention next time. He did say "Ablett deserves to be bashed and more"

We are still waiting to find out what the 'and more' part means.

More details please...

A robbery attempt where? At his place?

Obvoiusly people knew where he lived and were attempting to get some of his goods.

The world is full of peaces of ****!

What are peaces? If the world is full of them, why haven't I seen one?

That's it. I'm sick of it. A man gets bashed while looking at cars in a private viewing organised by rex gorrell so the man doesn't get hassled, and somehow, people find a way to blame him for it. You people having a dig at Ablett for getting bashed and saying he had it coming to him are the scymbags of this earth. no sympathy. no heart. and as for the horan thing, i sympathise for the family and the fact that a young girl lost her life, but tell me, which ones of you were there? what gives you the authority to tell us what happened that night, what ablett did, what ablett didn't do? no one. and tell me, how many people on this board have not done things that you regret deeply. i know i do, and i dont consider myself scum for it, and i like to think that others dont think im scum. people change for christs sake, and anyone that is saying this man had it coming to him are living in a sick and twisted world.

You've got to ask why Ablett was at a used car yard close to midnight and why he would ask if he was going to get bashed and why the accused would say, yes, you are going to give me 200 dollars.

Sounds extremely fishy, MG styles.
