Both are very versatile, with the option of playing nearly all positions on the ground and able to dominate in these positions.

Who would you rather in your team?

Youd only prefer Goodes because of his age. I beleive Johnson is more valuable. I think Goodes has an easier role to play at Sydney than Johnson does at the Dogs.

I think Johnson's 2006 was better then any other player. May seem biased but if you look back on some of his stats or watch some of his games he was just dominant.

Johnson kicked goals like a FF but set up plays like a HF. Was the most player of the 2006 season in my opinion. Well deserving the captain of AA.

If you look back on some of Goodes stats or watch most of his games, he was just dominant. That's why he won the Brownlow and most of the media awards.

That said, both are extremely fine players and both had brilliant seasons in 2006. Not quite sure of the basis for the comparison though. Both are flexible players but with very different physiques. Goodes additional height enables him to probably play in a wider range of positions but that doesn't, in itself, make him a better or even a more valuable player.

^It's true though.

Typical.

If he played for the Eagles then they would think he is one of the best in the league.

Totally overrated, I mean he's only won two Brownlow medals
I'd take Goodes.

Brownlow medals is an overrated award. It should be renamed the midfielders medal. Johnson plays deep forward so it near impossible for him to win one.

I would say Johnson because he is more versatile, more consistent and been performing for longer.

Before people shoot down the more versitile comment I know Goodes can go back and forward but he is sh*t in both areas and doesn't get a kick. He is only a midfielder.

if I had the #1 pick in the preseason draft and both were available and at there peak I would go with goodes.

yes he is over rated based on what he does, if he was 178cm instead of 193 but still did the same thing's in the midfield then I would highly doubt he would a duel brownlow winner.

I respect Brad Johnson a huge amount but I would never pick a good small leading forward/midfielder over a much more explosive and damaging (when playing midfield) run the lines type in Goodes.

...didnt johnson play in the midfield before he was shoved forward?

as for me, Goodes, johnson is great, but Goodes is better

It'd be better to judge in 8 years time or so, when both their careers are over. Then we'll see if Goodes kept up the consistency.

2 Brownlow's is a fantastic feat, although I personally think he's overrated.

Johnson is in the class of Buckley & Hird, and I don't think Goodes is there yet .. Too early in his career despite the Brownlows, because as we all know, some of the best players of the game have went without Brownlow Medals.

Johnson has been dominating for his whole career, he's won The Dogs an incredible amount of games just by himself. He's been doing it for a career, Goodes has done it for a few years.

Which is why IMO it's not fair to assess them as it is now, because based upon their careers, Johnson has been more effective for a longer period of time. Question remains if Goodes can do the same.

Geez, that is a tuff 1, well i would rather Adam Goodes for the reason of 2 brownlow medals but then Johnson because he is a great allround player and kicks plenty of goals

In that respect i agree, i didnt really think of the seasons he didnt win a brownlow now i do those seasons were pretty average.

He did win the rising star, brownlow at 23 and brownlow at 26. That's a pretty good career so far if you ask me.

I didn't say it wasnt a good career, it's a bloody great career. Me pick would still be johnson for the reason he racks up the possetions and kicks an average of 3 or 4 goals a game and he does that nearly every match, would you rathet goodes who has a great game every 2 matches or sumtin or would you rather johnson who racks up 25/30 disposles and 3 or 4 goals. think about it

If Goodes played in the forward line he would also kick 3-4 goals a game. Infact he was sydney's leading goal kicker If I remember correctly in the early 2000's in the period between lockett and hall.

Johnson gets so many possession and goals because bulldogs play a high posession game and they don't have any other forward options really. Sydney on the other hand have the lowest possesions in the league and probably the best forward line.

He has also won a brownlow as a ruckman. And as a midfielder. All Australian, Best and fairest winner.
Add that to a rising star, premiership experience and is only 26 and just about to hit his peak you would have to choose Goodes to play in your team.

What had Johnson achieved when he was 26?
