That doesn't show anything. At no point did he throw his arm forward.

Why do you keep asking me to double-check your moronic comparison? You compared an indigenous dance to a white power salute and a rifle shot against people who'd been the target of long-term violence. It was stupid. Let it go.

Because White Power movements have a long and violent history attempting to subjugate and oppress minorities. Firing a rifle aimed directly against indigenous Australians from a white person obviously has its own obvious ties, whereas what Goodes did is indigenous dance from an u16 football team. 4

You can't seriously believe what you're posting.

So no white person has died from an aboriginal throwing a spear?

It was a clearly hostile action and is only being excused because of the race of the person who did it.

What do you call it when one race can do something others can't?

I'm saying they're both gestures promoting one race.

If one is racist, why isn't the other?

If one would cause outrage, why shouldn't the other?
Probably because neo-Nazis believe in the extermination of all other races.

Some would call him racist as I have, some would call him bigoted.
Perhaps for accuracy the term Racial Bigot may be more accurate.

  1. Racist -a person who believes that a particular race is superior to another.
"I had a fear of being called a racist"
    synonyms: racial bigot, racialist, xenophobe, chauvinist;
  1. Bigotry is a state of mind where a person obstinately, irrationally, unfairly or intolerantly dislikes other people, ideas, etc. Some examples include personal beliefs, race, religion, national origin, gender, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or other group characteristics.

Ok which part fits either of those definitions you just posted the meanings

Laugh all you like but the crowd was provoked by it and a Carlton supporter was ejected as a result.

It was much more than a dance too, as Goodes himself said it was a war cry so it was aggressive in nature and designed to provoke a response.

It was within the theatre of sport. Of course it was directed at the carlton fans, they are the enemy in the context of the game. And the game is sometimes portrayed as a war between two tribes by the AFL media.

You're comparing the white power movement to an indigenous dance.

Just to drive it home, YOU ARE COMPARING THE WHITE POWER MOVEMENT TO AN INDIGENOUS DANCE. How did it ever occur to you that this was a smart comparison to make?

Are you really trying to find holes to justify your clouded and racist views. I am going t call you out for what you are, an uneducated BIGOT.

Why are you so offended?

wow!

I am willing to bet you are a middle aged white man, aporx 45 - 55 years old.

Flip it round though, do we condemn other celebrations that arent tribal

Micky o roared in the fat eagles guy face... Iirc people loved it
Tredrea did his ear thing to the crowd

Seen plenty of celebrations that were stiring up the crowd by players without the condemnation

The miming of the spear or what the dance meant is just bs who cares

Australia has a long, long, long, long, long (long) way to go before we even deal with this issue.

It's mostly not even malice, it's just jaw dropping levels of ignorance.

I don't blame people who don't get it, they're not stupid, but it's hard to know what you haven't had explained. Impossible really.

We just won't confront it and take it on.

Some people in this thread are going to be pretty ashamed of their opinions in 5 or 10 years time. I bet people came came up with all sorts of reasons why Nicky Winmar should keep his politics off the field as well.

I doubt it. Inherited racism isn't going to magically disappear in '5 or 10 years'.

Ape is just a bloody word.

Or maybe we should judge words and actions in their context? ;)

Dont disagree But i am not an aboriginal and i do not know what it means to them

This is the society we live in though

People carrying on like a pretend spear and a dance upsets them are pretty pathetic

But people who wAnt to call others racist for thinking goodes is a w***er are also off the ball

The media just milk all this crap and get everyone riled up though

And then he is trying to be smart about it when all he has done is confirmed his ignorant way of thinking.

Just a heads up with the spear thing. Raising the arm like that is in heaps of IA dances. I've never seen one thrown but putting the arm up like that is pretty common.

As you were.

That's why it should be directed at the Carlton players as they are the enemy in the context of the game, not the supporters sitting in the grandstand.

The All Blacks direct their haka at the opposition players before the game, they don't direct it at the opposition supporters who have probably had a skinful and are likely to get riled up and abuse them.
