Addy had done it again...

JUB JUB, I know you will get annoyed with me, but I have to make this point.

I got the Advertiser today, and I was disgusted to see the reporters ALREADY comparing the cats to the "Baby Bombers" from 1993. That is the worst piece of writing and comparison I have ever seen. When I get the paper, I don't want a whole heap of rubbish to greet my eyes. You thrashed a half mast St. Kilda and beaten Freo at Skilled who can never win away anyway.

Talk about getting carried away. Bartel is your gun. Ablett is already being over rated. 13 possies?? Big deal. His picture was in the paper THREE times today. That paper and the supporters will be the death of that boy. I like Jimmy Bartel, and I'd make a huge fuss over him if he was at Melbourne. The boy can play, and play well.

But even you guys could no possibly argue that the article was not going WAAAAAAAAAAAY overboard.

Maybe you are blind, ignorant or whatever, but we have told you before, it is not us talking up the club, ITS THE PRESS!!!!!!! Do you see us talking up the club, believing what is written? I think not.

We have three wins on the trot and a more than probably arse kicking coming up. Get off your high horse, go support whatever team you do, and keep an interest in their performance and what is written about them. The other alternative, since you are so obsessed with Geelong, is to be useful and buy a membership.

You obviously want to do things the HARD way.

I was saying that what the Advertiser said was a total disgrace....u did happen to notice that didn't you?? I have a problem with the paper and it's total crap, not the supporters. I am not obsessed with Geelong at all, I just happen to live here and that is the sort of crap I have to put up with. Bomber's Babies? PUKE!

Clubs like mine (Melb) have a much younger list and do you see any idiots comparing us to the baby Bombers?? We did reach a Grand final in 2000 by the way, with a VERY young list. That paper is why Geelong will never be any good. It builds them up WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much and the team can't live up to it. Plain and Simple.

And why would I waist my good money on a Geelong membership?

And again, you aim it at us. You have a good young team, you brag about the GF appearance but notibly miss last years, I wonder why? Do we want to be compared to the baby bombers? Not a chance. Do we have any control over the media? Nope. Perhaps you'd be best ignoring all the media hype about the Cats since its pisses you off so much, its hard because you live in Geelong, but I'm sure there are better ways to manage it.
And perhaps you could do what most Geelong supporters do, not take what the Addy says so seriously.

Time to visit an old thread, I guess... the old "post all gripes and whinges about the Geelong Addy here, please" thread...

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27871

(Gotta love the User CP function.) ;)

OK, Cowboy, all cheekiness aside, let me ask you this question... what percentage of your team's young players are getting significant playing time at this early time in the season, and contributing as much towards the team's successes? As much as Mark Thompson has given to the likes of his young charges with the Cats? My guess is probably not...

Furthermore, a three-match winning streak is something Cat fans and the Addy CAN get worked up over-- each have seen Geelong down for so long, so one can forgive their exhuberance. And have either faction expected the Cats to be as high as 3rd place, even at this early stage of the season? Same thing... excuse the exhuberance, and let them enjoy it.

Of course, if you don't like what you see in the Addy, then don't read it. Simple as that... :)

Cheers,
William

CFH, do I sense a touch of jealousy?

Jealous of the fact that Geelong get publicity all the time while Melbourne get sh.t all publicity (and rightly so).

But keep buying the Addy, it keeps me in a job. :D

No, no jealousy involved at all. I just think the press down at Geelong build you guys up far too much. To be honest, I was having a go at the paper and the only reason I posted it here is because I wanted to see what you guys thought. Obviously, some of you don't like it. Fair enough.

We are playing only 1 of our draft picks to so far, mainly because our positions on the field are already filled buy young established players or guys who have been around for a while. On the other hand, all your rookies get a run because of you lack of depth. I say that because it's true. I mean, I'd love to have James Bartel at Melb. He is a great player. We don't need another midfielder, but he is special. I have watched your games so far, and that's all I could get excited about. Ablett won't be anything but average, Rooke will do okay and Foster will be the same. They are riding a wave. It will end shortly.

Johnstone
Green
Bruce
Wheatley
Whelan
Broadbridge
Armstrong
Williams
Jolly
Thompson

That is virtually 1/2 our side and all are playing a HUGE role in our success so far this year. They may be 1 or 2 years older than you were asking(Bruce is the oldest at 22), but they have already proven they can play consistent football at the top level. Half of them have got finals experience and a couple have played in a Grand Final whereas the players being wrapped up at the Cats have played matches against StKilda and Fremantle.

C Mooney
D Clarke
D Foster
M Scarlett
J Bartel
G Ablett
D Wojinski
P Chambers
J Corey
C Ling
J Rooke

Also if Spriggs, Street, and Enright, David Johnson hadn't have been injured they would be regulary playing for us holding key midfield positions.

We then have another batch of players such as King, Kingsley, Harley who are around 23 :)

Thanks for your time ;)

before you start talking about lack of depth, where are our reserves on the ladder?

Actually,Melbourne's VFL side was so bad they had to merge with an old VFA side to gain any credibility.

What a load of crap. Practically every side has done it. U guys have top up players, we have Sandringham players. Most of your players only ever get to be VFL stars anyway.

Thanks, Ronnie.... I rest my case. :)

Not a bad representation on the part of the Dees' kiddy corps, though. It was bigger than I thought... but still not as big as what's happening at Kardinia Park.

Melbourne did get some publicity in the Addy today.

An article about Stephen Powell being suspended.

I knew you would be pleased CFH. :D

Yes, I did see that. Did you happen to notice our ins this week?? He is covered.

If that happened at Geelong, it would be panic stations because you can't cover your good players, where as we can.

Not so sure about that.

Ronnie Burns, who has been a non-factor during the Cats' current winning streak, is out for Saturday's game against Brisbane. Yet, there is indeed cover for him... simply by virtue of the fact that the side is virtually unchanged.

Fair point. But I'm talking more.....midfield. Say Riccardi, Clarke or someone else from your midfield got injured. It would be very hard for you guys to cover something like that.

If Clarke got injured, It would be a good thing in my opinion. We could bring in Wojinski as I strongly believe he is a higher quality player, and prooves more worth than Clarke. Riccardi hasn't exactly been playing midfield last few games.

If anything, we are developing too many midfielders. Clarke, Corey, Spriggs, Bartel, Enright, Johnson, and I'm sure I've missed someone. There is plenty of cover for our midfield should anyone go down with injury, as has been proven with the loss of Spriggs and Enright.

Enright has played halfback.Don't forget these players will take over from Kilpatrick & Ricco in the future.Ricco would probably spend more time up forward if the young players can hold down a midfield spot.
