My feeling has been that Stephens preference to return to South Australia has been overstated.

We don't know if we are or aren't chasing Stephens hard. I always like to see the club not making any comment on potential trade targets as it generally means we're working it very hard....... no comment on Dawson so far is a good thing.

10 sport just said along the lines that Sydney will have more $ to accommodate Stephens now that Dawson is moving on, and he will likely stay now.

I read one somewhere (Advertiser?) that stated Crows have offered more but Port are more attractive. This would imply that this journo has seen both contract offers, and I'm pretty confident that only Dawson and his manager would have seen both contracts.

It was certainly reported in the media some time ago that Collingwood was a preferred destination for him.
This has been repeated overnight by Foxtel.
The narrative is that, while that might be his preferred destination, they might not be interested or capable.

Essendon are reported to be interested, with Adelaide always added as an automatic afterthought.

We seem to be pretty clueless when it comes to knowing what is going on. I wouldn't be surprised if we think Dawson is in the bag, but don't actually have an agreement in place. Wouldn't be the first time.
