Good team beats bad teams more often than they beat good teams...shocking.

Sure, Port definitely are a little more downhill skier-y than some of the other top teams, but we're looking at this from an emotional perspective. The story behind the numbers matters less than the numbers themselves in this context - because it's a PR/spin thing. You can bet your bottom dollar Chris Davies isn't breaking down who they won against, but just 'that they win a lot' when pitching to Dawson. And probably that a player like him is what they need to turn themselves from great to 'the best' against the other contenders.
But good teams also beat the other good teams more often as well and they don't just loss to them but have been getting smashed by them in the last few years so they are more than a "little" more downhill skier. No doubt, Dawson is a big upgrade of Bonner or Houston but I'm not sure how this will improve the other players in the position they are struggling, sure if they can develop him into an elite midfielder who they really need but if not I wouldn't be surprise if they drop out of the 8 with a much difficult draw against the top 8 next year, Hinkley gets sacked and Boak and Gray both retire.

The thing is - they have vaguely capable players in the position that Dawson plays.

They're a side FULL of flankers.

Is it worth paying an extra $400k to upgrade that position? While they're losing games due to issues in other lines?

Dawson feels like a luxury. I think Boak has maybe 15 good games left in him, and Drew is solid at best. They need to bat six or seven deep in that midfield, and they NEED capable talls.

I think clubs are going to look to raid Port over the next few years. I think West Coast will come for Giorgiades, and Butters will see big offers from big Melbourne clubs, which will feel like being in main street (I stead of being the 2nd best team in the 2nd best town). They need to retain cap space for those players, and they need to focus anything available on their actual gaps.

you’ve said it yourself they’re a team of flankers. That’s how they play too

getting someone who can execute to turbo charge their transition is a lot better than just having a body who can fulfil a role in their game plan

because they setup like a team of flankers actually getting a good one might make a serious upgrade

I love the self-talk around Dawson.

How he won’t fit into Power, he’s a Crows supporter, his parents are Crows supporters, they can’t afford him, we have space, we are heading up, Power are heading down etc…

If we get him we will all talk about what an amazing acquisition he is.

If Power get him he’ll be over rated, unproven and over paid.

Yeah sorry, in another thread. ABAB claiming that Clurey isn’t a KPD and then came up with an arbitrary number that at 193cm you can’t be a KPD until he found out the all Australian fullback was only 193, then may became an exception.

I’m amazed that he’s allowed to pollute threads with his nonsense

No, he has been playing as a tall defender, not KPD. You think Doedee is a KPD? Big difference.
So someone that’s too short to be playing as a KPD is tall enough to play as a tall defender. 😂

Why? This is a public forum and I really value Sanders opinion about this.
I honestly feel dumber for reading your posts.

Naughton is key forward & McKenzie was his opponent, like he has played on other key forwards pretty much every game.

It's so clear, yet you keep arguing otherwise.

What are you talking about, he literally played on tall forward like what Doedee did most of the season and got smashed like Doedee did and posters here were correctly saying Doedee isn't a KPD. How is that different to McKenzie or Clurey, you go to their board and try to argue and defend McKenzie and Clurey are KPD and they will laugh at you like I'm doing now.

Lol

With a lot of cash, a solid vision and some serious spin.

I've asked a couple of questions and reckon from what I'm hearing it's line ball. Which is pretty good.

I think there's a lot of people on this board who see this situation with emotion and not rationality. Sure, Port got whacked last night and have some aging stars. But every side has a weakness - the Dogs whacked them without a ruck and with very below average KPDs. Port can have a weakness and still re-load. Helps that their weakness is in the easiest part of the ground to improve.

It'll always be easier to sell a team (who can match for cash) with some good young talent who's won 31/39 in the last two years than a team who's got some good young talent but won 10/39. Even if there are (often correct, IMO) other factors that work against Port and in favour of us, it's a much easier sell.

If we can come close, I think our personnel are doing something right. If we get him, they deserve a raise. And I think there's a reasonable-ish chance we might.
I think the difference is now he knows a) they are not as good as he may have thought and b) he’s going to a club with demons. Demons that they failed again but this time in a miserable way, it’s not going to be a happy place and the doubts will be there all year no matter how good their minor round is.
