We have been burnt once, let's not stick our hand back in the fire

No way I want to see him anywhere near the AFC - he took the money and ran.
I have no issue that Davis left in the first place, the money was honestly too much to say no to at that stage of his career. From memory he told us fairly early as well rather than when he was hopping on the plane telling us to get a trade done.

I personally wouldn't give up our first round draft pick for him though.

As a team we have been blessed with good tall defenders, Rutten, Bock, Davis and Talia. Davis is an excellent defender but someone did mention Talia's younger brother which could be interesting.

How do people see Siggins development? Still quite young but starting to build a bigger body. My personal choice with our first pick would be an outside midfielder with a good kick on them.

Hartigan and LT have shown they can handle AFL but would cost 1/10th of what Davis would cost (admittedly not as good as Davis though).

With Hartigan, LT, Siggins and Otten (and potentially someone in the draft), i am unsure whether Davis is our first priority.

Why don't we go fishing in the Carlton ocean again? Matthew Watson has gone no where. Unsure of how good or bad he is but could need a sea change. Whilst there we should also steal Menzel...... (won't happen).

From rucci's online chat (not my question)

Q:Has Phil Davis shown any interest in returning to Adelaide, that you know of? I personally agree with Noble targeting Davis, and would seem a nice fit into the Crows defence.

A:The Crows have been hearing encouraging signs from the western end of Sydney for some months now ....

Might be a bit harder to get Lycett over here now that Cox has announced his retirement.
I'd say next to impossible.

I was speaking to a family member of his who said that he loved WCE, but also wanted the opportunity, so was considering the move because of that.

Now that Cox is gone, his spot has opened up. He will stay.

Yeah I agree 100% it's not like your midfield at present lacks any star power, but how confident were you this time last year of landing Buddy?
Think this off-season will have a huge impact into Danger's decision.

Buddy was recruited to fill a gap in our forward line . Goodes nearing the end and sam Reid was taking longer to develop than expected. Like I said, unless someone like hannebery Or Parker have asked for a trade( unlikely as they both re signed) the club would not be looking at dangerfield

I'm saying that they wouldnt do it for Jaensch and a 2nd rounder as you suggested.
They'd probably do it for our first though which is where I said "thats what it would take"

You say critical to success but look at the previous 5 grand final winners and their individual defenders.
Hawthorn - average (Lake (>30 version), Schoenmakers, Stratton)
Sydney - average (Grundy, Richards)
Geelong - average (Taylor, Lonergan)
Collingwood - average (Brown, Reid, Maxwell)

Alot of those guys are low picks, or recycled players.
Often teams have one good key backmen, and the rest are filled by role players.

I'd rank Talia a better defender than all of the players listed there.

You're right in that we have a need in the backlines. I'm just not sure we should be giving up much currency for a guy with consistent injuries, who is used to a big pay packet.
Ah - my apologies , I misunderstood - get you now.

The future is these guys coming to town

Patton, Boyd, Cameron
Lynch, Dixon, Day
Danniher, Carlisle

You really feel safe with LT/Hartigan walking down there with DT?

That sounds like a catastrophe waiting to happen. I'd feel much more confident having a Davis/Talia down back. Still think we need to draft a defender this draft, whether we pick up Davis or not.

He'll re-sign for a 5 year deal then.

People suggesting we trade our first rounder for Davis are legitimately mental or wantonly negligent. That would extend to 3 years our run of not drafting top flight youth. 3 years.

Three years.

Think what this will do to us in coming years. We will have a massive hole in our list to compliment the one we have now between 25-30.

This year we draft surely*

*unless we used it for a once in a generation opportunity (Aish) who is in the same age bracket anyway

I tend to agree with using our 1st rounder. Or using it to trade for an upgrade.

We need to draft.

Did someone say Talia reminds them of Bock? DaFuq??

Davis gives us 2 Easter Island statues, we need more run.

You'd take him cheap, but not for a high price
Yeah was thinking the same until I figured out we were talking about the Bulldogs one.

That being said, if his last name wasn't Talia, I very much doubt there would be much interest for him on this board. He's only managed 3 games this year in a side that has struggled with KP defenders for some time (not aware if he has any injuries that have held him out or not).

We'll have 9 players 20 or under at the end of the year, including : crouch x2, Cameron, knight. You make it sound like out list will look like saint kilda's.

*we'll have 27 players under 25 at season's end.

You conveniently left out the "top flight" bit. Of those 9, the only one who is top flight is B Crouch. I'm hopeful of the others but you're blowing way too early. In the mid-2000s we had plenty of young players on the list too. But they were not good enough and time culled them off. Hence we only have Betts (newly acquired) and Douglas and possibly vB now as decent players in their late 20s. This is mostly why we can't compete consistently with the sides with gun big bodied veteran senior groups.

*we'll have 27 players under 25 at season's end.

Again, quantity is irrelevant. Quality is key.

After 2 years out of the draft we need to bank quality young talent or suffer in the future. Its not a question of if we will suffer but how much we will suffer. I'm certainly not prepared to risk our first decent pick in 3 years on an injury prone turn coat.

Also guys if it came down to it, would you prefer Davis back at the club and Dangerfield gone?

Because thats what it may come down to if we're offering too much money to Davis, when we could've gone with another option for a third of the price.
I disagree, as I said earlier Davis and Danger are very tight. I don't think money will be the issue with Davis; he'll be coming home to his girlfriend every night if he returns to Adelaide. That is a big drawcard in my opinion.

What's he been doing the last 3 years?

I know theyre tight, but money is finite.

Was m Talia not d Talia being compared to bock.

How big will the hole be when Dangerfield leaves?
