The only important thing at this point is that Thilthorpe continually develops and improves.

That doesn't just happen by playing AFL games. You CAN develop in the SANFL - it's probably better for a lot of kids to spend time there, because they'll get their hands on the ball more often and get better reps in.
Especially in a competitive SANFL side.

An injury at AFL for Thilthorpe is better than an injury wasting time in the Sanfl where he is learning nothing.
That's hogwash, he was sent back with clear areas of his game the coaches wanted him to work on...the injury is just unfortunate, could have quire easily done it at tyraining.

2nd Quarter:
AFC 6G 8B : 44
CDC 7G 4B : 46

FOG started the quarter strongly and was in everything. Top-ups playing well, which helps. Defence a lot better that quarter. Murray can certainly roost a ball - kick out to the centre of the ground. Newchurch an almost game. Parnell is very impressive - composed with footskills and always looking to be involved in moving the ball forward.

From the Advertiser article about the win, quote from VB regarding Thilthorpe

“He was quite uncomfortable at halftime, he had some soreness in his knee,” Van Berlo said.

“We didn’t want to risk that in the second half, we will asses it in the coming days but hopefully there is not too much to it.”

Did you see the Thilthorpe injury in the second quarter?

Yes and if he was able to be selected in Round 1, then obviously the areas he needed to work on werent major especially since he was in the side most of last year. All I am saying, is he should have been back weeks ago and therefor todays injury wouldnt have happened. Yes the Sanfl is an important place to grow young players, im not saying its not. But he is a clear elite future star of the AFL competition. Its not a maybe, its a certainty. When you know this, and the club knows this, why on earth would you waste time sitting him in a competition he already dominates. Now he is injured from a Sanfl game. We need him in the AFL.

Is Parnell playing on the ball? Saw a bit of the game and it looked like he was. How is Schoey going this week?

3rd Quarter:
AFC 10G 9B : 69
CDC 9G 9B : 63

Pedlar started in the centre and made an immediate impact - just throws himself into everything. Boyle clearly never skips leg day. Freeman looking much better that quarter. Fog continuing on with an impressive game - leading well and impacting contests. Schoenberg looking a lot more composed and less fumbly - kicks a nice long range goal. Worrell reads the play so well. Parnell a standout.

Seems to be primarily playing in defence. Actually defending well when he needs to but it is his drive and sublime skills that stand out. Always moving and never seems to miss a target.

If he never plays AFL imagine the quality of AFL player he'll become!

Parnell reminds me of Jayden Short. Reckon he will be a gun

The “Kids” who were regulars at the end of last season were given the trial matches and early games to cement their position. Namely Murray, Jones, Schoenberg, McHenry, Rowe, Thilthorpe and Fogarty.

Unfortunately all of them have struggled to some extent so we have given other “kids” a chance (Hinge, Rachelle, Himmelberg, Gollant, Frampton and Berry.

This is exactly what to expect in a developing team.

4th Quarter:
AFC 14G 17B : 101

McAsey had an excellent start to the quarter. Lewis is a very handy player - athletic and can kick a goal. Hinge has a surprising turn of pace - I also love the fact he can kick a ball 40+ metres and it barely goes above head height.

Weird melee half way through the quarter that seemed to start with Schoey. Dogs players seemed to take it too far though and looked like someone was trying to throw a few elbows at Fog. Last person I would be picking a fight with ....

Just quietly, Pedlar is stringing together a nice run of games. Would like to see him back in the 1sts sooner rather than later. He also kicks more goals as a mid than when playing as a half forward.

In contention for a call-up if needed would be Parnell & Worrell. I also wouldnt be upset if we had to use Fog, Schoenberg, Strachan, Hinge, Rowe or Pedlar.

Billy McCormack for Centrals has some nice traits for a tall.

Did you see the Thilthorpe injury in the second quarter?
I was watching the replay closely. Towards the end of the half, TT came down from a marking attempt fairly stiffly, but didn't look too bad. Then, after that, there was a contest on the goal line near the post, where one of our players ended up on the ground for a while: There was no close-up and after that I didn't see TT again.

Its the point. Getting injured at AFL level is better than Sanfl level. At least he is getting the development. I dont see why sending a proven Sanfl star in Thilthorpe back to the Sanfl is developing him for AFL. Our selection committee really f’ed up on this one. Sanfl development exists for players who who aren't ready for AFL. Thilthorpe proved he was last year. One bad game and dropped I could cope with, but letting him languish there for four weeks was dumb and now its backfired. There was no reason as to not select him against Richmond. Its not drawing a long bow to suggest that he shouldnt have even been there.
Himmelberg earnt his spot after the Port Power game, best game he played against was Port Power and Richmond. There is a player there and he shown us he deserve to develop his career in the AFL.

Interesting comment you've made about McAsey, some just look at the stats and immediately concluded he had another shocking game.

As far as I saw, he had one excellent contested mark and the rest was unremarkable. He isn't making too many obvious mistakes now, though.
The remarkable thing about him is that he and his opponent never seem to be very visible on the telecast any week. It's not as if his opponent is showing him up with bags of goals.

Watched most of the sanfl match.
Was a pretty good effort but seemed to me that the team was going at 2nd and 3rd gear for most of the game. The best imo were Parnell, Pedlar, Worrell, Strachan, Freeman. Hinge was not bad and his leg is a major weapon with his kicking. I was a bit disappointed in Schoenberg's game, he seemed a bit of an angry smurf out there at times. Pedlar had some good passages but lacks a bit of class and polish which hopefully he can develop. The only player I can possibly see coming into the AFL side from today is Parnell.

I guess McAsey is beating his opponent with his defensive positioning and covering him so well it isn't ideal to kick it to that forward.

Pretty sure that was Wright who landed heavily in the goal square. Seemed a bit vertically challenged to be Thilthorpe. Around the 24 minute mark from memory?

I think we need to play the long game with McAsey. The first half of the year should be just building confidence through doing the right thing defensively. Then we start to add to that with some of his intercept and disposal skills.

Thilthorpe had a single bad game against Fremantle and was banished to the Sanfl. Ok, I get it, they wanted him to work on something. But...you dont let your best recruit languish in the twos. I get making guys like Pedlar, Milera, Fogarty etc perform to be selected. But having your most influential draftee sitting in the reserves week after week when he needs development at AFL level is downright pathetic. Thats when injuries happen and guess what happened. The Crows development of Thilthorpe needs a massive spray because frankly he should have been selected two weeks ago. What were they waiting for? You dont want your best and brightest getting injured in the Sanfl. Thilthorpe should have only gone back for two games max. Should have been straight back in after the Essendon game. If he is out not for most of the year, the Crows development yet again should be called into question. What a waste of time now as he gets no development. If he is able to play next week the Crows should thank their lucky stars and almost bring him straight back in. Unbelievably daft development from the club.
My dad broke his arm in 12 places walking down a driveway. Injuries happen whether in the AFL, SANFL or some backwater D grade comp.

That’s a good point. Is McAsey actually getting beaten?
