FH, you must think I ain't very appreciative of your efforts on the game. Don't get me wrong, I think you guys have done a good job and appreciate your efforts, but I find the marking system and the AI too be ****ed up...

in some cases, my players don't even JUMP for the mark, and too many times have I been 3 metres in front, only for the guy to come from behind and get the mark. And its bloody frustrating when that happens in good close matches.

I'll stop annoying with me anger now FH, but I really do love the rest of the game.

No probs. With the marking is it a case of delayed response from your button pressing?

We're impressed by the current FIFA07 game when it comes to contested headers from aired passes. They rely on positioning and button timing. Currently we have button timing but no positioning criteria. If we can get something like that in you won't be outmarked by someone from behind unless it's absolutely setup for the big fly. Long story short, we're concious of this kind of complaint.

Thanks for the feedback.

FH, when you say that you can make a player in defence play tight or loose, is there going to be an upside and a downside to each option?

For example, if the fullback is playing loose on the full-forward, will this mean that it increases the risk of the full-forward kicking goals but conversly allows the full-back to rebound the ball more effectively when the ball is turned over?

Thanks

Tight - the upside is you're gonna be in a contest 90% of the time. The downside? you're chances of running off and burning your opponent are less likely and depend on the speed ratings of you and your opponent.

Accountable - the downside is you'll be close enough to get to a contest but your effectiveness will be reduced. The upside is you'll have the option to run off or force a contest.

Loose - the downside is if the opposition move the ball quickly up the field you won't be able to get into position in time. The upside is if there's a turnover you'll be a free option.

I must state however that none of this is set in stone yet. We have to test the effectiveness of these options before including them.

We'd love to spend more time working on presentations and improved cutscenes but the reality for us is that we have limited time from day one and we'd rather spend that time working on an improved gameplay experience for you guys. I understand your frustration though - it irks me too. Funnily enough I played NRL2 recently to see what they had and after a whole season (I hate NRL by the way) I was presented with a screen after the game saying Premiers 2006. At least we have a celebration cutscene! I guess it's going to be the norm with aussie made games until we are given bigger budgets to work with. Would have thought they'd have more though considering the international market of RL.

I bought the game.

To be honest what is dished up, is not worth the price Sony are asking.

In the old days of the Commodore 64, this sought of product would be released under the budget game range.

Too many faults in the game, to justify the $70+ price tag.

AFL 2007 would have to blow me away, for me to buy it.

Nice.....I mentioned FIFA07's headers on the AFL Gaming Ground forum. Playing FIFA and seeing how they do that really got me thinking of how good this would be for AFL.
I think it's even more difficult to get a good position for a weaker player as well, and the best part is, it's not easy to do, even if you've done it plenty of times before.

Yes, timing is important.....but in real life positioning is worth a lot in a one-on-one marking contest.
It'd be great to see this kind of thing implemented in AFL.

I think for the game to become really good FH needs to look at other franchise games like NBA Live 07 taking note of scouting and training, NBA 2K7 taking note of "The Association" and how that is conducted, FIFA 07 even though I havent played it as "BlackMamba" said timing is important and also positioning and I would also check out the Total Aussie Rules game taking extreme notice of drafting trading and all the off field stuff.

Been a while since I been here......

I've been playing fifa 07 for the last month or two and have found they have improved absoulutely everthing dramatically, but the big let down is they made it too easy too score!

Im playing on World Class difficulty in the FA Premier League and Ive done 21 mathes for 17 Wins, 1 Draw and 3 Losses and am coming 1st - but thats not the worst bit.........I have 87 Points For and 21 points against. Goal Keepers need to be made 50-70% better....

On the whole Afl game using the 'jostling' feature from fifa - great idea!

My tip - Game needs to flow much better and you need to improve the ball physics. Kinda needs a bit of an overhaul to be able to keep up with Fifa 08, Maddedn 08, NBA 08 etc.....Jus' my 2 cents.

Yeah i've seen that it has been put down to under $50 at most shops now, although i thought it was to get more sales now that the season is finished... as opposed to it not setting the world on fire and being reduced because of unpopularity.

I havn't touched the game since grand final week, i might pick it up again soon, if not i'll be playing it as the footy season kicks into gear next year (and by that time i might forget how to play it and instead of winning by 200 points on hard..... i'll lose by 200 points).

It was on the No.1 spot on the Playstation games list for about a month or so, so thats not bad, it has only just gone out of the Top 10.

Yeah it went 6 weeks at no.1 for all console games in aus before being knocked off by Saints Row on 360. Stayed at no.1 on PS2 charts for about 8 weeks. A pretty good effort but fell short by one week of the record set by AFL Live 2003 but you have to consider that there was a market for it after there were no AFL games between 1999-2003.

Yeah I'm a big fan of unlockables but unfortunately we can't add any players from the past as they aren't included in the AFL licence. A way around it may be to put in past premiership teams with sound-a-like names (e.g. Jason Tunstall = Jason Dunstall). These names may be able to be edited in the game so you can have your real names but players will be referred to by position and number in the commentary. It's just an idea.
Rest assured we are looking at unlockable items and want to reward the player for exploring the game. Will let you know more when I can confirm things like this.

can you use coaches tho? there some pretty fair ex players in their ranks.

A player editor would be great and would add longevity.
Certainly would consider every release is at the end of the season, and come the following season your wanting to play with the new rookies.

Not to mention the ability to edit their attributes in case you don't agree with my ratings of players (that's in there for all the Kent Kingsley fans :p )

What about create a player???

You're essentially doing that by editing an existing player. I know they are different but I was told that we cannot exceed the number of players in the database (was around 700 last year) so in order to add a player you pretty much have to remove one. That's what's done in career mode - they replace the retiring/delisted players with newly generated players.

I'd love to be able to add as many new players as possible. Will have to wait and see if we can do it this time around but for now it's gonna have to be a case of editing an existing player.

One thing that needs fixing is the running across the mark rule.

I find periodically that opposition players run through the mark at the time of kicking, and pull off a smother. Really irritating.

Yeah that one snuck through to the keeper in testing and should be rectified this time around.

FH it's been great having your feedback.

Firstly, I love the game. I think it's awesome. Once I changed the camera angle to down the field, it really rocked. Me and my mates have full on contests that get really intense.

However. Now I have a whinge as well. What is driving me banana's at the moment is changing players when the opposition is streaming out of defence. It's crap because if the opposition is running out of defence, and you can see the player he's going to kick it to is on a lead, you can't man him up! No matter how many times you hit the player change button, it flicks to players behind the play right up to the last moment, when it's patently too late.

I would have thought that you should be able to have more choice in who the player switch goes to, by "aiming" at the player with the right joypad. At the moment it seems random at best, and counter-intuitive at worst. Is that possible?

There's a few other small things, of course, but mainly I want to congratulate you guys on by far the best AFL game ever made.
