The other thing in favour of Pav getting a place is the somewhat low level of competition at the top of the coleman table, especially since Riewoldt has gone.

Top 8:

St. Kilda
Geelong
Western Bulldogs
Collingwood
Sydney
Brisbane
Fremantle
?

Carlton and Hawks are favs to take out 8th. At this stage you would think that 1 would make it but not both. There is a chance however of both missing. If you bet against both missing and 1 did you would make a small profit, but much bigger obviousy if someone like Port made it. What are others thoughts of this... Reckon the 7 above will all make the 8 easily...

carlton will win the flag imo

I think Carlton will make it and will finish inside the top 6 maybe. However their upcoming draw is very tough: Collingwood, St Kilda, Port Adel (away), so at this stage I'm not going to back them. However between rounds 9 and 16 they play every game in Melbourne and have a very soft run. If I still like them after round 8 i will back them.

I also think Mebourne have a good chance, as do Port. I don't really like Port's team much but they have been off to a good start and have a very soft draw the next 9 weeks. In fact they don't play any of WB, Coll, StK, Geel, or any tough interstate trips in the next 9 weeks.

I don't think Freo are a lock for the finals, their team isn't that good I have a feeling they will fade. Freo's upcoming draw: WC (which could be close imo), Bris (away), Coll, Syd (away), NM, Adel (away), StK, Carl (away). I think they will lose the majority of those games.

I have already posted many times about why I don't rate Hawthorn and betting against them has basically funded my mortgage the last 25 rounds.

In summary I think there is value at the moment to bet against Freo and Hawthorn and I think there is value in backing Port and Melbourne and perhaps Carlton in a couple of weeks.

i think freo should make it, they have an easier run towards the end of the year and a few of their kids are mature age who have been in the system a while who hopefully wont fade too much later

my thoughts are that there is only 1 spot available and that is between Carlton, Hawks and Melbourne, looks like the blues will take it but melbourne could surprise and are at good odds

dont think port are strong enough but still an outside chance, dont have the depth for mine

I have a decent amount on carlton to miss (my bets against the crows have made up for it) but i'll have to back them in hopefully after a few losses in the next few weeks

The agree about the hawks, if they lose to the bombers their odds will blow out
