Opinion AFL 2023 Round 21 - Liked, learnt, hated

Liked - Lots to like this round. An improved showing from the Eagles, a great derby in Sydney last night and a plucky upset win by the young Hawks were at the top of my list.

Learnt - Collingwood might be in some bother. Too early to know for sure but they’re certainly not the bulletproof outfit they looked to be earlier in the year.

Hated - Injuries. Sadly there were plenty this week.

Liked - Hawthorn. Written off before the year started for shipping off senior players. Have been far more competitive than expected. Mitchell has been great. Doubt anyone misses Clarko over there.

Learnt - Carlton's winning streak is as much about system as it is talent. Decimated by injury yet still winning. Seem to win a different way each week too.

Hated - The Eagles not quite getting over the line against Essendon. Would have been hilarious.

Liked: Reid is playing really well in the VFL, he's the best draftee I have seen in a very long time.

Learned: We're not going the tank did everything in the Essendon game to win it but lost the lead at the end.

Hated: We could very well blow Harley Reid and win another game to end the season. Still have freo next week and Adelaide at home in the last round.

Learnt: The Pies are no longer a shoe in for the Flag, it's wide open now. KISS to play at the Grand Final?

Hated: The injury to Nick Daicos is terrible for football on the eve of the finals, he's a great player and has made a big difference for Collingwood this year. It will be very difficult for them to cover his absence.

Liked; Not a whole lot. Haven't watched much footy over the weekend.

Learnt; The good sides are starting to build for the finals at the right time. Melbourne, Carlton, Doggies

Hated; Port are sliding out of contention at a rapid rate. Not sure if we can swing the momentum back in time for the finals. The side is not settled in any position other than the midfield.

Didn't watch the cats game but not surprised by the umpiring performance. We always get a few of these every year where two rule books are in play.

Loathing; Ken's impending contract extension. BF needs to build a bigger server when this news lands.

Learnt: Pies game plan has been worked out and probably for some time but oppo are now able to execute.

Hated: See above.

Liked: Nothing.

Re learnt - Razor Ray is the most corrupt umpire or is he completely incompetent?
Doesn't matter, shouldn't be umpiring games.
