The year is 2029.

Australian Rules Football is as popular as ever, with an even more diverse market locally and internationally citing the eventual demise of rugby league in Australia. The inaugural Australian Rules World Cup is to be held in 2030, with professional teams from all over the globe and our own homegrown superstars fighting it out for the prize.

The sport has also expanded in Australia, with every state and territory now having at least one team, plus the first team outside of Australia has entered the competition in 2022. There are now 22 teams in the league, with a hectic 30 week season now taking place. This has been accommodated by the influx of international athletes into the sport - allowing clubs to expand their list to cope.

Nike signed a massive ten year apparel and merchandising deal in 2026 worth roughly $3 billion, plus the national and international broadcasting rights has made the league vastly wealthy. Jumpers no longer feature local sponsors, rather the league is able to keep all twenty clubs afloat- jumpers now consist of just the Nike logo on the right breast, the AFL logo on the left breast and a club logo beneath the player number on the reverse.

In keeping with design standards following a horror run of club logo designs between 2000 and 2020, the league re-introduced standardised shield-based logos for each club to maintain a uniform design quality through their brand.

Through the weeks (this project is gonna take me longer than the '99 one), I will showcase the league's progression over that 30 years and give you a glimpse into the AFL of 2029.

Thirty years later: After thirty years, not much has changed with the Adelaide Crows. After a ten year spell in the 00's with a hooped home guernsey, the club reverted to it's original V design, and incorporated a V design for this year's clash as well- that also pays homage to the hoops of the past.

So I'm assuming they'll all have the same shield as the new AFL logo?

Those designs are all class. I'd buy one right now.

It'll be like the MLS with the personalised AFL logos.

I like. I hate seeing corporate logos all over the joint and they're getting bigger and more annoying every year. Nike still sucks but it's a big improvement!

The Home jumper is very, very similar to Port Adelaide's V, which would probably land some heads in hot water.

That Away/Clash jumper though... NEED. It's probably the best Crows away jumper I've seen, although the AFC logo is a bit odd on the chest.

I'm guessing you haven't checked out the AFL 99 Gallery I posted!

Should still be on Page One of FJ&GD, should give you a better idea of this project. :)

Just saw all of it... Oh boy. Can't wait for a few of them!

I actually dig the idea now, since the V is a state jumper.

"I know what I'm about, son." ;)

Thirty years later: Well, not quite. In 2022, the AFL allowed New Zealand it's first AFL license following the success of regular season games held in both Auckland and Wellington, as well as the number of New Zealand born players in the league. So born, were the Auckland Sharks- a team of teal and navy (the oceans of New Zealand) and silver (the silver fern), whose main design premise has been sharp diagonals- representative of sharks teeth, as well as to a lesser extent, the silver fern itself.

Cue Craegus rant.

Another "Sharks" team, in New Zealand, in teal and white/grey.

Ah I see your point, but honestly I based it mostly off Port Adelaide/Peel Thunder, because I really like teal and I won't get to use it much when I come to my Port design (spoilers...) I'd perhaps expect some annoyance if I went with the "Auckland Makos", however. ;)
