That was a joke. I think it even says on the post in the title it wasn't legit. Just did it so the Sydney and lolnorf fans could see their teams in their original glory.

North Sydney and South Sydney were still the actual teams.

Also, they weren't mergers...
Oh thanks god for that!

Thirty years later: Not much has changed down at Bomberland. Over time, the red on the guernsey became much bolder, and around 2010 the sash on the guernsey was straightened out. Aside from that, the Bombers have retained the classic design with the inverse as the away. However, the monogram has been removed since 1999 and has found it's way to the back of the guernsey as a homage to their heritage.

Thirty years later: In the last couple of years, Footscray have made a move towards a sash on their guernseys as opposed to the classic hoops- whilst inverting the direction in comparison to Essendon and Richmond. The two-toned collar and cuffs combo has also made a return over the last few years to give more representation to the rest of their colours. The initials "EJW" appear above the player name as a tribute to E.J. Whitten- as the Bulldogs carry his spirit every time they go onto the park.

Is that a spoiler for Richmond?

The implication there was that Richmond and Essendon had a sash at the same time as when Footscray introduced theirs.

It's still possible that the Tigers or Bombers changed their uniform in the past couple of seasons, since the introduction of the Bulldog's sash.

FremantleDockers.png
Thirty years later: In 2010, the Fremantle Football Club announced they would be building a new stadium on the site of Fremantle Oval- to truly become Fremantle's team. In this action, they also dropped the anchor from their guernsey and used the traditional chevrons of the original Fremantle football club. On the reverse of the guernsey features a stylised Italian flag to represent the Italian heritage of the city. No longer are the Dockers are team called Fremantle... the Dockers are now the team of Fremantle.

Thirty years later: After thirty years, not much has changed with the Adelaide Crows. After a ten year spell in the 00's with a hooped home guernsey, the club reverted to it's original V design, and incorporated a V design for this year's clash as well- that also pays homage to the hoops of the past.

really like the "V" on the home jumper , but I think the away jumper is a bit busy

Thirty years later: Due to the overwhelming success from games held at the newly-upgraded Manuka Oval, as well as a massive population spike, Canberra was also awarded an AFL license along with three other teams in 2022 (one of those being the previously featured Auckland Sharks) and so began the Canberra Capitals. Their main colour is green (forest green and lime green being used together), along the lines of fellow teams Canberra United FC and the Canberra Raiders. The team never stuck with one main guernsey, rather they have mixed it up over their short lives in the league- the one constant being the stylised Parliament House flagpole, which is arguably the main symbol of Canberra.
Logo looks great, certainly beats Canberr Raiders current logo in the NRL

Nope, red and green are nautical references, representing the Port and Starboard side of a ship.

Pretty sure it represents both...

It's funny how this myth has persisted so long. Red is port, green is starboard, the white is just from the anchor. Nothing to do with Italy at all.

Edit: Javelin was too quick for me

Hmm, I was always told that it was to link to the Italian community- swear the designers said something about it as well.

But even still, Fremantle is a massive Italian hub so the design element is still relevant.

Freo does have a big Italian community but I doubt they would base a whole team colour scheme around that fact, it's the port/starboard reason why it's green and red

What does Green have to do with port and red with starboard though?
Never heard a good reason for that and I was offshore for a few years. I always remembered that port wine is red, but even that's not the explanation, since the old name for port was larboard, before they realised it was confusing and changed it

Pretty much. It's how ships navigate into a harbour. They know that left is red, so the line up the left of their vessel with the red light on shore.

In fact, I think Fremantle even has two lighthouses that are red and green as well, if someone can confirm?
