STATE OF PLAY:
  • The game is out for Steam and PlayStation. There have been issues with Xbox release and it is unclear when the game will be available.
  • Big Ant are aware that there are playability issues & bugs at present.
  • Content has been temporarily removed from the game to identify where the issues lie.
  • This content will be re-introduced via patches in the coming days.
  • Big Ant have released a summary of what is to be reintroduced, which can be seen below.

Playing a few games after the patch, I really can’t tell whats been fixed or what hasn’t unfortunately. I’m laying some tackles but it feels very roll the dice, could be me holding or pressing triangle (I’ve tried both) plus shoulder buttons.

On the AI side, the invisible blockages from their backline to forward is ridiculous. 3-4 kicks tops and none of the user players can get anywhere near the players to stop it. I’m also convinced difficulties don’t matter as the AI plays virtually the same in every game.

Also something new, I don’t think the wind has any affect on goal kicking. Tried to aim for the inside of a post where the strong wind would’ve certainly carried it over for a point, but still got the goal 🤷🏻‍♂️


The invisible blockages are a killer, makes you feel so helpless there is literally nothing you can do to stop it
 
Yeah * the face scans. So many nerds on here obsessed with the scans, the socks, the diversity in the crowd etc like who gives an absolute rats toss bag. Make a ******* footy game that's fun to play. * the rest
We were obsessed with those things because there was literally no gameplay or anything else for that matter to obsess over :)

In the old thread a lot of people dismissed any concerns people had and openly stated it was because they had "blind faith" in Ross.

I'm sorry but it was ridiculous then and even moreso now.
I'm not trying to lecture, but maybe appreciate what we do have rather than blindly celebrate the failure. I can't imagine that you would speak to someone in the manner of that comment. I thought it was pretty offensive.

It not popular to say, but if we accept that the Launch Day patch failed and that we are now playing some sort of early access beta for a week, the comments are likely to carry more weight. Especially when you actually have good insight into what the game should be delivering.
A lot has to happen in a week to get to Big Ant's intended "launch ready" state, and even with the elements being built already and now getting put back in this sounds ambitious - but it is more likely that Big Ant are working overtime to get reset quicker than is regularly deliverable than "another" attempt to deceive.

Personally, I am comfortable that if they can deliver the stated feature list and continue to improve the gameplay at the same speed as we have seen thus far, we will have a really good base game with faults in line with most other launches next Friday.
I would have taken the opportunity to play a 7 day early access if it was offered, and in the grand scheme of things, paying $79 a week early for something I would unquestionably buy a week later anyway isn't that big of a deal.

I'm not blindly defending, but celebrating someone's failure when they are obviously having a real crack at something is just unfair. I accept that if Big Ant knew what was being released that they would have been working all night and weekends at least a week earlier, rather than embarrassing themselves and damaging their reputation - and then having to do it anyway. There is no way this is a calculated strategy.

I've stuffed up things at work plenty of times, but never had a spotlight this bright on me. Ross may aim higher than he can realistically achieve at times, but he has proven that he isn't a charlatan like Tommy Tallarico.
 
All those "this looks like PS2 graphics" kind of people have in some small part contributed to the shit show we've seen today. This is what happens when you prioritise graphics above gameplay, plain and simple. BigAnt have seen that as being the biggest demand for this game and have budgeted for that accordingly (although I don't remember people asking for a 15 second coin-toss animation). It seems people want to idolise those older games yet at the same time shit on them for their graphics. Of course this is 100% on BigAnt, but people need to wake up and realise what actually made the older games so iconic and great for their time.

I don't really care tbh. Who tf doesn't have internet but has a next gen console? It's commonplace, hardly a specific issue for this thread. Lobby the gaming industry if your so upset lmao

100% agree! For me, that and the slow wind up for a kick which leads to the player get tackled when there was sufficient time to kick are whats dampening the experience more than anything else.
 
Tackling and player movement has to be the priority now. I know BigAntStudios said tackling is, but players caught running backwards and the general lack of control I feel when it comes to player controlled tackling and movement is my biggest gripe right now.
It's pretty hard to have a single priority - I am winning way too easily and better movement and easier tackling may make this worse!
They also need to fix the opposition not sprinting, not spoiling, losing every ruck contest if you punch forward, very rarely being able to out-mark etc. at the same time. And goal kicking is so easy that I can't miss.

There is enough that works to think that this will be rectified by next week though, and elements like tactics and stats being integrated will make a huge difference to the gameplay for me.
 
I am truly amazed at what people are willing to label as 'minor issues' such as 'tackling literally doesn't work' 😂
I'm amazed that "This isn't the version they meant to release and is obviously broken" is somehow a point in defence of Big Ant?

More a case of this is what happens when Big Ant are the developer. Almost everything about each of their games is a mess on release, whether the graphics look good or not.

I have zero faith that this game would be any better gameplay-wise if they'd spent half the amount of time on the visual side of things. They do this every release.

I'm not upset. Most games that should have an offline mode, do.

Its not just not buying internet. Moving house, network outages etc. It's very common.
