If the New England Patriots can afford a couple of Boeing 737s why can't the AFL buy one for all the teams to move around the country? I'll bet there are few going cheap and there are plenty of pilots available!

Cheaper to charter flights?

Doesn't one of the airlines sponsor the league? So we're probably getting mates rates.
Virgin does, still doesn’t stop them from bumping up prices come finals time though.....Poor form from Mr Branson I reckon.

IIRC, flights are part of the sponsorship.

Yes but only some players are in business, many players have to fly economy.

So if you're travelling back from Melbourne for 5 hours and are banged up, not a comfortable flight and will really effect recovery.

AFL needs to provide charters or pay for more Business class seating - if banged up players that need to recover have to fly economy then the AFL brass should have to fly economy also.

Dont planes need to be in the air constantly to pay their way?

Transportation will be a concern come the season. Can't have our AFL players being forced to quarantine for lengthy periods if they are on a flight with a positive test. I'd assume they'd be arranging flights which are restricted to AFL players, teams and staff (which i assume they did last year when moving between hubs). It could be a bit more of a logistical nightmare this year with travel occuring more often (rather than just transitioning between hubs four and six weeks apart).

NO to sponsorship, was Virgin but not since it went in to Administration. The AFL sponsorship is no more.

AFL footy is well behind the Queensland Reds* with its sponsorship by Alliance Airlines - never heard of them, you live a sheltered life:
Newmont strengthens Alliance with aviation contract extension - Australian Mining

* The Queensland Reds have become Australia’s first sporting team with their own jet at their disposal after signing a lucrative sponsorship with Alliance Aviation.
The cash and support deal will include charter flights for the Reds to rugby games and festivals within Australia and New Zealand, giving them a huge advantage over their rivals relying on commercial flights.
Queensland Reds get own jet service in new sponsorhip deal with Alliance (theaustralian.com.au)

Next thing you'll want it for the longer flights, 2+hours might be a start if the AFLPA were dinkum.

It wont happen in the AFL.

Cant be spending $$$ that support some clubs more over others.

And the big Melbourne clubs hardly travel .....so whats the problem?
