From The Age:

Frawley let the club know he would be leaving as an unrestricted free agent, after playing 139 games in eight years.
The Demons are hoping to receive pick three in the coming draft as compensation for the one-time All-Australian, who is expected to accept an offer from Geelong or Hawthorn by the end of the week.
The Cats had not been made aware of any decision by the 26-year-old on Wednesday night.

You would think if he'd told Melb, he would have told his club of choice, even if it couldn't be announced, right?

Gee…this Frawley bloke has become a real gun…… over the last 6 weeks…and he hasn't pulled on a boot. Is he REALLY that good? The guy I have seen play is an AFL footballer and a pretty good one. Haven't exactly put him in the "star" class myself. MAybe I don't know enough about him.

What I do know is, his tyres are being pumped to the max in this thread.

Be interesting to see how long they take to go flat if he goes to the Hawks!

About as long as it took Caddy to become a hack after we got him on the Norf board….

I think it's likely he's working with Hawthorn on a contract because that's where he'd like to go. Hence the silence from Geelong's end.

But it's at least plausible that he has had to wait until now to get Hawthorn's full attention and to make him a pitch. And if that's what's happening, it's at least possible he'll hear Hawthorn's pitch and still prefer Geelong. Plausible, but unlikely IMO.

The odds seem weighted in Hawthorn's favour at the moment but I think the silence can be easily explained.

As far as I know, clubs and players can't publicly reveal their free agency intentions (beyond Geelong saying they're interested in Frawley) until the window opens.

Last year, every man and his dog knew Dale Thomas was going to Carlton but club and player had to continue with the 'no comment' line until the free agency window opened.

"I think that'll probably come to light over the weekend, we've obviously put in an offer," Blues national recruiting manager Shane Rogers said.

"We haven't made that formal yet, we're waiting to hear back from his manager.

That was a quote from a Carlton official the day before the FA window opened - you can't tell me the Blues weren't 100% certain he was going to play for them?

Likewise this year, Waite seems headed to North Melbourne but nothing official has come from him or the Kangaroos.

It's possible that Frawley has privately told the Cats he wants to play for us but neither party can reveal it to the media yet. It's also possible that he's told the Hawks the same thing and is stringing us along until he's agreed to a contract with them behind closed doors. It's also possible that he's only interested in either us or them and is using the other club as leverage to get more money.

I for one will keep the faith until it's official one way or another.

Isn't it odd that players can't say anything yet re: Free Agency, but players seeking a trade CAN declare where they would like to go

Yes, but neither he nor Geelong would then have told any journo.

Still don't think the official destination or acceptance of offer can be announced untill trade period commences Fri morning.

He can declare intentions and all that but is still technically listed etc etc.
Sure its semantics but still can be the reason we have heard bupkis. That and the fact with Hawks going deep this year they have had other things to occi[y their minds…. lucky bastards…

Maybe im going for straws but maybe im right… Ive been at Judge Judy all week and the legal technicality stuff is rubbing off… o_O ( she is worth $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$)

I keep hearing people say this but it can be made clear without being official - e.g. Waite and Higgins this year, Matt White last year.

Would be due for an "up" year next year, then, you'd think. Guns never stay down for too long.

Just hope it's with us. I'd hate it to be at the Hawks!!

Well another AA that people thought was finished was Lake, similar down year, look how that turned out.

I think Frawley will be similar. New club, not getting smashed week in week out and he can flourish.

Still we've got another year or two before we need another key defender. So it's not panic stations yet.

Bit of a burn given how publicly we courted him and had half the team paraded out to talk on his character and skill. Happy with Clark pick up (and Riv), we are definitely doing better than most. But it's a brave new world and l'm not sure l like it that much.

Oh well he's a good player but not a desperate need right now. Time to give Mitch Brown lots of game time at full back I think. Practically the same height and weight as Lonergan. I'm talking 10+ games including big roles on good players to help him learn the position, not just 2-3 games against weak teams.

Yeah, notice how the Hawks just subtly go about getting their guys. They don't make a massive song and dance about it in the media. How many times over the last few years has Scott made it incredibly obvious who we're going after, only for them not to be landed?

Yes, I think the silver lining is that, in an ideal world, we'd pretty clearly be picking up our ready made Frawley-esque key defender at the end of next year, rather than this year, when there is still a logjam.
