Agreed. The really old one with 1 main spot for 4/5 stories + others listed was WAAAAAAY better just for formatting purposes (4-5 years ago). I can't tell where match reports are, what is recent news etc. etc., and the live stats used to be much better too
 
I'm a BigPond customer (because of the cable), and last night I tried to watch 4 quarters of the Dogs v Lions game from here

Now in my maths, that's 4 x 30 minute quarters = about 2 hours of enjoyable footy (for a Dogs fan last weekend).

Not so with Telstra, the worst big company and worst tech company in Australia.

It took over 4 hours, and even then I didn't see the lot.

3 hours spent trying to make sputtering or frozen content work across 3 different browsers until I got to the 15 minute mark of the last quarter. Whatever I tried, failed. So with a heavy heart after midnight, I contacted BigPond tech support.

Another hour lost, to no avail. Best of all, the four dills in the Philippines I spoke to had no idea that BigPond offered such videos.

Tried again today, same result.

Telstra are utterly ****ed and should be closed down. Utter disgrace.
 
The Match Centre is absolutely deplorable ATM. It's actually pathetic. Scores and stats hardly update at all. And that results page is just infuriating. The AFL wants to attract a global audience but it seems they're doing everything it possibly can to confuse and deny outsiders the chance to explore the game via the most effective medium available. Where do they think those foreign to the sport will first go if they want to find out more about it? Wikipedia and the AFL website. The league needs to get with the times and start to prioritize the accessibility of its online resources.

2) Teams
3) MRP decisions

Never been able to use it for simple things like that

It's 6pm and the teams have been out for an hour... but not on the afl mobile site...

They get a lot right, the AFL, but there are some clangers
 
I have had cause to vent about the AFL website a lot over the last 6-7 years. It really is that bad.

Hopefully one day they will offer well optimised video streams, use a webplayer that actually works, fix the formatting of the site, get rid of the OTT distracting banner/panel ads, develop a user friendly menu system, update info and post match day pressers in a timely fashion, provide a properly functioning live tracker and a website that doesn't crash under heavy traffic ... right?
Have you tried surfing their site on an iPad?

It's the only website that causes my iPad to freeze.

I can't imagine any professional sporting body that has a worse website.

You can't even check the most basic things like teams on an iPhone or iPad, for goodness sakes. It still brings up the NAB Cup grand final sides.
 
Also I will be coming to BF to see the teams in nice simple text. Could not believe I could see the teams on BF before the AFL website (and the Hun for that matter). Nice work BF contributors:thumbsu:
 
I haven't gone near it in years.
Shocking thing. That heraldsun live super footy thing seems uncomplicated,fast and up to date. Tells you the "correct scores" updates stats etc.
Good enough for me.
 
It really is awful. I couldn't find the final teams and sub info all weekend. It's the little things too - having a picture of Mitch Duncan and teammates with the caption "Billie Smedts and ....".

They redesign it every 6 months or so, too. Just to make it slightly more jumbled, less clear, and slower to load.

I would have thought a good team of 2-3 people who know football could get it right.

If I was running the website I'd have a large photo of that time I teabagged Gary Lyon after a 20 point loss to the Roos smack bang in the middle of the page

Vast improvement if I do say so myself
